Actually thats where you are wrong again, Lance Armstrong was very appreciated by the french crowd at Tour de France, millions of people witnessed that on tv themselves.
As for Serena, she was only booed by couple of people in the crowd, not the whole stadium.
Dennis Miller and other comedians too have made some pretty disturbing statements about the people of France in different talk shows but that doesn't represent the views of the whole country.
Getting back to the main point, Johnny Depp isn't stupid enough to make statements about a country where he sells most of his movies, media has a habit of twisting people's words.

MP Carolyn Parrish was speaking to reporters about Canada’s diplomatic initiative on Iraq. At the end of her comments, after most of the cameras were turned off, Parrish said, **“Damn Americans … I hate those *******s.” **

In a written statement issued Wednesday afternoon, Parrish says she made the comments in the heat of the moment in a private conversation. She said they do not reflect her opinion of the American people.
