French fries were NOT first made by French, it WAS the Belgians, whoever said that, u r right. Besides, naming them "freedom fries" is just as bad as calling sauerkraut "liberty cabbage" as America did during WWI and II. I mean its just stupid.
I stand by Johnny, hes a smart man and his good looks don't hurt, but he had to apologize for the statement prolly cuz i think it woulda hurt his career tremendously. Its a price u pay for being in hollywood. BTW, does neone remember the name of the Bowling for Columbine director who gave the anti-bush speech at the Oscars. I was so happy when he said that. Rock on!
in response to "freedom fries “Nothing made me happier than when I read that — grown men and grown women in positions of power in the United States government,” Depp said. “I was ecstatic because they revealed themselves as idiots.”
So, would you like to explain the “Freedom Fries” incident then? Let me guess, you’ll just refer to it as an act of “Patriotism”, and had nothing to do with throwing a cheap shot at the French?

Really - I guess you didn't read the following :-
"*America is dumb, it's like a dumb puppy that has big teeth that can bite and hurt you, aggressive," he said.
"My daughter is four, my boy is one. I'd like them to see America as a toy, a broken toy. Investigate it a little, check it out, get this feeling and then get out."** *
^ My point is that he called a country ‘DUMB’ and insulted it. You are trying to prove that he was talking about the people in ‘position’ which is not true.
BTW - Why is he backing down now and begging for an apology ?
He called America dumb, and you assumed he was talking about the country and it’s people, rather than just the goverment? He clearly stated in article (and my repeat post above) that he’s referring to men and women in positions of power in the goverment. It’s not my problem you can’t comprehend easily.
Probably because he’s nice enough to accomodate to those people who are not smart enough to comprehend what he’s trying to say, basically to all those “freedom fry” lovers out there.
I mean come on, do you honestly think that any one given person can possibly believe that everyone in the country is dumb?
I assumed ?? Yeah I assumed that he uttered ‘AMERICA IS DUMB’. Actually he said none of these and according to him he was misquoted., Perhaps the reporter also assumed that. . didn’t he say, he wants his kids to treat america like a ‘Broken Toy’ ? Was he referring to the government officials and suggesting that his kids should play with Govt officials’ toys ?
Yes, he sure did say that, and that was the highlight of the article. It makes sense for him to not want his children to become exposed to a brainwashed and ignorant society that the “US GOVERNMENT” helps create for it’s citizens by pulling stupid idiotic stunts like “freedom fries” and pass them off as “Patriotism”. Way to go :k:
Yes, let’s label Johnny Depp as a terrorist now. So tell me Asif, when is the US going to destroy the Statue of Liberty, or when are they going to stop using French words in their vocabulary? Let the flag waving begin.
Well, all I can say is that Johnny Depp is a lousy horse to put your bets on if you wanna take shots at US. He is an actor. If you wanna trash US (or US Admin) pick a better person, like Nelson Mendela, or even Jimmy Carter. There are plenty of quotes to go around. :-)

It's just one person's opinion. It makes no difference who it is.
Well, yes. But it really doesn't look too well, if you use his quote to present your opinion, and then he turns around and says "I am sorry, I never meant it". See what I am sayin'?
Like this is what Nelson Mandela said as quoted in Washington Post...
[quote]
"Nelson Mandela, the former president of South Africa and an internationally respected statesman, lashed out at President Bush's stance on Iraq today, saying the U.S. leader had no foresight and could not think properly," the Washington Post reported Yesterday.

I didn't use his quote to present my opinion. I used his quote because it was humerous to me how he described his point of view. My opinion will be my opinion, no matter who agrees or disagrees with me.
Besides, his apology was a means to clarify to the people that he wasn't directing his words to the people of the US, like many seem to believe. Any intelligent person would know that. It's unfortunate people take a critical opinion of their government as a personal attack on them, especially with an issue such as "freedom fries".
Are you telling that German Reporter is lying and Depp didn’t say all that ??
There you go. Once again you make another statement calling the American Socoiety as BRAINWASHED and IGNORANT. The fact still remains that whole world comes begging to this same society including your country of origin and your adopted country.
As far as the fries,Let me clear your your ignorance, it is still called French fries here in US, incase you didn’t know. Let me give you an example - Serena Williams was booed in France so was Lance Armstrong for no fault of theirs..after couple of days some french guy was playing tennis in US, and the spectators were appreciating his game. That’s teh difference between US and France, That’s the difference between Americans and French.
Depp is not a terrorist but an IDIOT and he has proved that by apologizing for something he was misquoted
First he calls AMERICA IS DUMB , Next day he calls himself an American.
