CARACAS - One million books, 10 million documents, and 14,000 archaeological artifacts have been lost in the U.S.-led invasion and subsequent occupation of Iraq - the biggest cultural disaster since the descendants of Genghis Khan destroyed Baghdad in 1258, Venezuelan writer Fernando Baez told IPS.
“U.S. and Polish soldiers are still stealing treasures today and selling them across the borders with Jordan and Kuwait, where art merchants pay up to $57,000 for a Sumerian tablet,” said Baez, who was interviewed during a brief visit to Caracas.
The expert on the destruction of libraries has helped document the devastation of cultural and religious objects in Iraq, where the ancient Mesopotamian kingdoms of Sumer, Akkad, and Babylon emerged, giving it a reputation as the birthplace of civilisation.
First time in history an entire nation has been put on the culturally endangered list…Not to mention the Iraqis themselves…

well its necessary to bury it today for the americans to find in the future. also with no info on iraq and its history it would be a piece of cake for the jews to claim it to be their land gifted to them by their God as they are the chosen ones. :p

good of us Muslims to take interest in preserving ancient, archeological treasures. i seem to remember us jumping in joy at the prospect of blowing up some of them in other parts of the world.

not really…not all muslims are talibans… but the problem is that they have some art in having everyone talking about them and thinking they are the real true muslims…while we the average moderate muslims…are ignored and barely heard…

its important to be consistent when "isolated events" do occur lajjo. you can claim as many destroyed masajid as you wish, you lose all moral ground once you cheer the destruction of a single church.
