job of media is to tell the truth whether negative or positive - popular or unpopular. truth becomes the first casualty when media takes sides and becomes partisan. best example of dangers of media propaganda can be seen in the u.s. where awam regards fox news as legitimate news organisation. fox told americans that saddam was a threat to america and american awam bought that. pak media is no different from fox news. people who know better need to highlight media propaganda whether in the u.s. or in pak.

Bhai, first of all there are no regualtions AGAINST doing what Geo and Aaj were doing... If the STATE says that they shouldnt then they wont... Its the states fault for not having proper regulation. The News Media were only doing their jobs, which is to provide information to the public.

The proper way to go about doing things is to have a consensus between all parties involved. But because this is a dictatorship and there is no rule of law, any new outlet that violates a law, (a law that isnt even a law) is automatically shut down. Thats called Tyrany.
The FCC can only fine people for violating regualtions that are actually in place... In Pakistan, there are no proper regulations, so what are you going to fine them for? Create the frame work, creat regulations, and the channels will follow them... Dont and you have what we have.

If the PEMRA rules are not being followed... GUESS WHAT! In a democracy, the Courts are there to define the legal parameters involved...
IF the channels were violating the the PEMRA rules, then its up to the govt to take them to court... The court would decide whether the Channels had violated the PEMRA ordicnance... If they had, they would be warned and made to pay a fine..
In Pakistan, Musharaf the dictator calls all the shots. There is no independant court system for the channels to rely on... Eveything is done through authoritarian dictates.. Musharaf was angry at the Media, so he took his revenge, lets not try to justify Musharaf dictatorial vindictivness..
At least when the CJ was in the court, people knew they could rely on a court system that was independant of those in the President house and GHQ... Yes, that's correct. The proof of how the media has realised it's mistakes is how all have now practically signed upto the newly amended PEMRA ordinance, and been allowed back on air. Except Geo that is, but even that now has a dumbed down, PTV-like appearance, so it too has in effect fallen in line - though they are too proud to admit it yet. :)
