Not quite, but these are difficult times for the nation. Country is divided and confused from inside. I do not see us plunging into a civil war anytime soon, but if the security and intelligence are unable to reach the sources soon, there will be many more casualties.

Even the British couldn't subdue them during their colonist rule over South/Central Asia and they were the super-power of their time. Out of their entire Empire, the Brits got the most amount of resistance from those areas and the highest amount of British soldiers died there.
What makes you think our shrivelled up prune like soldiers are any match for the ppl of FATA if even the Brits couldn't subdue them with their weapons and army?

The resistance and tenacity of FATA is a myth.
The fact remains since there are no roads there, moving up large number of troops to do battle in that area remains very difficult.
Thats exactly what happened to the British. The British won every single battle against them but due to the lack of roads, could not bring in reinforcements, medical supplies and food and thus had to withdraw.
So the strategy then should be to bomb them from the air, like the Americans did. Look how quickly the Taliban crumbled in Afghanistan when USA attacked them.
Even today, the Taliban are losing thousands of men fighting NATO in Afghanistan.
Pakistan should employ a similar strategy

Problem is that our stupid generals are still living in the dream world of conventional warfare in FATA. They need to go on the offensive and use the terrorists own tactics again them. Setting up roadside bombs is not that difficult. 500,000 army can take these number of causalities, Taliban who number far less can't.

Finally someone says it. You don't crush an insurgency with tanks. You demolish it with snipers, bombs, and externally manipulated strife between the opposing factions. Let's not forget who we are fighting. 15-25 year old brainwashed Pushtoon and tribal kids being manipulated by Arab/Uzbek/Afghan and tribal warlords. No need to arrest the thousand of corrupted 15 year olds. Just take out, bomb from air if necessary, their terrorist Masters. They are not hiding, for God's sake they are even broadcasting FM radio from their forts. In fact, we can defeat them without firing a single bullet. Just inform the CIA that OBL and Al-Zawahri have been verified to be hiding in their compounds. Make some money, and get rid of the tribal terrorists!

I would say Pakistan is headed more toward a lebanon state. Who knows we might start having outside interference and the ideas suggested show support for unconventional tactics. SYria also basically used terrorism to further its goals in lebanon in the eighties [assassinate president etc] when they couldn't fight the advanced israeli army coventionally. I think we can learn a lot from lebanon.

We fail to see the patience Govt. showed in trying to get out as many people out of the mosque as possible yet object to Govt. enforcing its writ against people who have openly taken arms against the society. Yep, May God have mercy on us

And how do you suppose they use these weapons? How do they take control of them? Against whom? To get what? Do they have a spokesman or someone who can speak their grievances...? And if the grievances have been heard, has something been done about them?
