Okay so I am bit over the top in interest in this particular wedding but so what..
What Karisma wants: Manish Malhotra’s miracle of design
After the much-hyped wedding plans of Arun Nayar and Liz Hurley where Donatella Versace is rumored to be designing a sari, it is desi designer Manish Malhotra’s turn with Karisma and Sunjay Kapur’s wedding.
Malhotra may have designed for many star weddings – from Sridevi, to Kajol, to Aditya Chopra, to Vijay Shah’s son’s wedding held in Antwerp – but Karisma’s is special. Even though he’s still discussing what she really wants, but the brief is simple and elegant. “There are three ceremonies: Mehndi, sangeet and the wedding on September 29 at Raj Kapoor’s Chembur house for 250 close friends and family,” says Malhotra.
Malhotra knows what Karisma wants: A lehnga that is not-over-the top with minimal embroidery in a soft hue. “There are two lehngas: One for the sangeet and one for the wedding at 12.30 p.m. in a gurudwara. So, it can’t be too bright and has to be feminine.” And for the mehndi, it’ll be a shalwar kameez with a contemporary twist in a soothing hue, to make an austere style statement.
Subtlety is the call of the day, says Malhotra. “Karisma has been the reigning Bollywood queen. I’ve worked with her for eight years and transformed her look in Raja Hindustani. I’m also doing a couple of outfits for Kareena. I’ve worked with her in Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai.”
One of the most popular designers in Bollywood believes he can work his magic despite the time constraint. “She will preserve the trousseau collection. Karisma told me that she wants to look back on these clothes as a part of her treasured memories.”
After wedding the blue-eyed Kapoor girl is to shift base to Delhi, where her groom-to-be has bought a swanky flat.
August 26, 2003. Karisma Kapoor, the bride-to-be, is training her eyes on New Delhi, because her fiancé Sanjay Kapur has already bought a house there.
According to sources close to the Kapoor khandaan, Sanjay has bought a house for two at the posh Vasant Vihar enclave in New Delhi. So, it transpires that Karisma will be shuttling between Delhi and Mumbai, since she doesn't plan to chuck her career post marriage.
It is learnt that Karisma, who is getting married on September 29, was keen to have Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla design her wedding outfit. But the designer duo, known to be close to the Bachchans, refused to do so. It's then that Karisma approached Manish Malhotra, who is credited with giving her a whole new look in Raja Hindustani. Malhotra is not just designing lehengas for the bride and her sister Kareena, but also sarees for their mother, Babita.
