more good stuff from the ultimate professional

Razzaq bhaijaan was bashed here for his unprofessionalism and I partook in the deserved bashing. but for some reason, that golden boy of Pak cricket - who never gets dropped no matter how poorly he behaves or performs - did the same and yet somehow the golden boy’s transgressions were overlooked again.

so, thought I’d post the article so that we could all curse these KCCA rascals for insulting uncle Afridi’s seniority. let the KCCA bashing begin.

DAWN.COM | Cricket | Afridi threatens to quit Karachi team over captaincy

KARACHI: Shahid Afridi has threatened to quit his regional side Karachi, after having been overlooked to captain the team in the domestic Twenty20 tournament.

“I think the KCCA officials need to rethink their attitude towards senior players,” Afridi told the media at National Stadium Karachi.

Fast bowler Mohammad Sami has been captaining the Karachi side this season in Afridi’s absence. While the all-rounder was unavailable during the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy and the Pentangular Cup, he will be representing Karachi Dolphins for the entire duration of the ongoing RBS Twenty20 Cup.

“I have no problems with the captaincy I am playing under Sami but senior players like me deserve better treatment from the association.”

Afridi said he should have been informed by the officials about their decision to replace him before the tournament began.

“I think the KCCA officials should have had the courtesy to at least tell me why they didn’t want me as captain. I am always prepared to play even as an ordinary player but there is a way you treat senior players and the KCCA is not doing that,” the all-rounder said.

Dolphins are one of the two sides representing the metropolis in the tournament and Afridi has warned the local officials that he may opt to play for another region if they continue to treat him “badly.”

“I have always taken a lot of pride in representing Karachi in domestic cricket but if the KCCA continue to treat senior players badly then I might be forced to play for some other region in coming events.”

KCCA secretary Siraj-ul-Islam Bukhari, who has held the post for more than three decades now, was quick to explain that Afridi had misunderstood the situation.

“The fact is that last season when we wanted him to lead the side he was not available and this year we also had to take into consideration the fact that Mohammad Sami had led Karachi to the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy title and deserved to continue as captain,” he said.

According to Afridi, however, he had been told last year by national coach Intikhab Alam that he could play in only two matches during the competition.

“Since I was not available for the entire tournament I decided it would be better if the KCCA appointed someone else as captain who could lead in the entire event,” he said.

Re: more good stuff from the ultimate professional

This article is completely misleading and I watched the full afridi interview on tv and no where did he say he will not play for karachi. He said he is disappointed how the Karachi board treated him but he wants to play for his city. He also said the media totally twists and turns words to make things seem like they really aren't

If anyone has seen the Dolphins in their 2 games they would know Afridi has been giving his 100% effort. Razzaq got bashed because he left Lahore to play for Sialkot just because he wasn't made captain. Plus Afridi IS Pakistan's T20 captain so he has every right to wonder why Sami would be chosen ahead of him to captain the Karachi side.

this article is from Dawn. Dawn is not an Urdu sensationalist paper... and it isn't Jang. it has a reputation for quality. so, please don't dismiss it just because it doesn't fit in nicely with your view of your god.

as far as the rest is concerned, if this isn't hypocrisy then I don't know what is... if Razzaq threw a tantrum, he also left that team and isn't with them poisoning their dressing room. and Afridi is still in that dressing room being an excellent role model for the young ones that if things don't get your way, you can throw a tantrum, whine about it and probably get your way. seniority syndrome gone wild.

I mean honestly, I know you love the guy... but is it really that difficult to admit that he did something wrong... something that Razzaq did as well and was bashed for?

Re: more good stuff from the ultimate professional

Well I did see todays match and yes Afridi was giving 100 % to the team, and there were no differences seen between him and SAMI. The only reason Sami was given the captaincy is cause Sami had lead Karachi to some trophy before successfully. So as per KCCA Sami could have been a better choice. There should not any problem on who becomes the captain in my opinion.

What Razzaq did was totally opposite he left his own city for the sake of captaincy. A totally wrong example for the youngsters.

Re: more good stuff from the ultimate professional

more third class harkatain from the great man. firstly, played an irresponsible cameo... enough for the fanboys to crow about for the next 50 years. but in the context of the game and for the team, yet another useless, irresponsible inning. but what's new about that?

and then took a dig at his coach saying that the coach didn't make a plan. really? you could have had Einstein drawing plans for this team but what can the coach or plans do when your senior most player instead of taking responsibility he slogs at every ball he faces?

truly third class comments taking indirect shots at the coach. the PCB should take disciplinary action.

I think he didn't played for Lahore because he was not ready to play under the captaincy of great Salman BUTT and if i am right, He is not the captain of Sialkot team, there he is playing under Shoaib's captaincy.
