DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Pakistan - A suicide attacker killed two policemen in northwestern Pakistan on Monday after they prevented him from approaching a Shiite Muslim procession, an official said.
Two more policemen and five civilians were wounded by the explosion in Dera Ismail Khan, said Sarfaraz Khan, a senior police officer in the city.
Police had set up a roadblock at the end of a street to frisk anyone entering the area but the bomber refused to be searched and detonated explosives strapped to his body, Khan said. A Shiite procession marking the festival of Ashoura, the holiest day on the Shiite calendar commemorating the 7th century death of Imam Hussein, was scheduled to pass along a neighboring street. Ashoura celebrations culminate Tuesday.
Tsk tsk, sad. Does killing really satisfy someone’s ego/hunger/zameer?
Aljazeera says 15% which is more reliable! The thing is that people should be allowed to worship whatever they want but this should not be at the cost of others. At the same time, killing innocent people is not the solution to the problem.
You are 100% correct. It is right of Pakistani citizen to practice their religion freely however due to high rate of illiteracy specially in (Pushtoo Speaking area / Afghanistan influence area) this kind of attacks are very common.
Incidently religious intolerence and hatred was so common in the most educated city of Pakistan - Karachi in the early 80's! MQM curbed that menace to great extent but created ethnic one! Alas!
