Sad news about death of 25 tribals. Why can’t these guys learn that world is changing around them and they can’t live a life as if it was the year 1200.
** At least 25 rebels have been killed by Pakistani security forces targeting militant hideouts in the south-west province of Balochistan, officials say. ** Troops, backed by helicopter gunships, found a cache of arms and ammunition at the compound in the tribal district of Dera Bugti, they added.
Those killed are said to be supporters of tribal leader Nawab Akbar Bugti.
Rebel tribesmen are fighting the government for greater control of the poor but gas-rich province.
They have been accused of attacking officials and government buildings as well as blowing up gas pipelines in the province.
“During a two-hour operation, security forces killed at least 25 militants and wounded several others,” Razik Bugti, provincial government spokesman, said.
The government is pumping millions of dollars into Balochistan with the aim of turning it into a regional economic and energy hub, the BBC’s Barbara Plett reported from the region recently.
It has also been building military garrisons to secure the investments, which officials say will bring development to the people.
But many Baloch resent the growing presence of the armed forces - seen as imposing Islamabad’s agenda - and support for the tribal rebels is growing, our correspondent found.
