I’m walking home from the train today. Cheap chinese food in my hand meant for dinner. (Should have bought the Lo Mein, I would have had food for 2 days).
This woman … no no, let me be honest… GIRL … drives by driving a Lotus.
A LOTUS for crying out loud. I’m used to BMW’s, Mercedes, and Harleys - my uni is filled with rich brats. But this is the first time I’ve seen a Lotus on campus…oh hell, its the first time I’ve seen a Lotus in Miami and we’re all about the cars out here!
While I was walking the remaining of the way with the cheap chinese food in my hand and books in the other, watching the Lotus speed off, I was reminded of a recent lecture we had in Philosophy class. The statement used as an example to discuss some other theory was this:
If one is wealthy, one has a moral obligation to share their wealth.
Picture me and two buddies sitting at a sidewalk cafe/restaurant on a saturay afternoon in mid-nov eating our cajun shrimp caesar salads and drinking sangria...across from us is a guy in his late twenties sitting with two hot european girls..speaking psuedo eurotrash..
We watch the chicks and are congratulating the guy internally for being a pimp..as he gets up..he gives his a claimcheck to the waiter, who in turn gives it to the valet. The three of them stand near by us and speak that godaweful kosovian or something..
As the valet comes careening around the corner in a BMW Z8..we are impressed. He says ciao-ciao to the girls and does the 5 kiss on the cheek medley and walks towards the car. tHe valet gets out of that fine automobile and hands the guy the keys...and says "sir, that would be $32 for parking"...the guy..starts getting nervous..he looks around and starts running down the street and flags the girls down..borrows the money and pays the guy.
His pimpness gets reduced right in front of us. The girls look at him with a bit of a skewed eye and the final cheek kissing isn't that amorous.
I have met a lot of people in my life like that. Guys I knew form B-School who after their first job, bought 7-series Beemers...pimped in Slk's..highly leveraged and eventually broke.
So looks can be deceiving PCG..but tell me one thing...was the girl in the Lotus HOT?
Matsui... whats gone into you? Itni lambi kahani.....
Anyway, PCG, since I already wasted 15 seconds of my time going thru Mat's post... I kinda agree. Cars are no indicator whether the person is wealthy or not.
Having said that the philosphical quote you pasted earlier sounds fairly impractical as well, if one thinks that anyone driving pass them on an S500 is gonna dole out funds to padestrians crossing the streets carrying doggie bags of food.
Lotus aren't that expensive. They were pretty common at the office car park back in the UK. Brand new they started at £26k, about the same as a compact executive car.
Guys, I think you are missing the point here. Maaro goli Lotus ko. Why should wealthy feed the passerby on the street? That is the question. I personally think, all these lavish car-wallay (you know, those driving Mercs, Beemers, Bentleys etc) should paste tax receipts for all their charitable deductions on the rear window for everyone to see.
the parents are sharing their wealth by giving their daughter a Lotus. Once she gets out of college and starts looking for a job, she won't be able to afford even a car wash!
And you gotta stop eating cheap chinese food every day! Have you ever checked out their restaurant's rating? I hope it is above a 98!
the lady in the lotus helps via the trickle down effect.. tears trickle down my cheeks and i comfort myself with chocolate helping poor slave children in belgium
