somewhere in southern Morocco. imagine waking up in this place every day
with the date palms brushing against your windows to the call of the Azan..
kind of like a utopia on earth ?
at Essaouira in Morocco. the high walls probably indicate
this must have been a defensive fort at some period in time.
especially since it’s located right by the sea.
Hehehe you can kick me later for embarassing you. But this thread is so wonderful, I know i’m going to spend hours looking at.
I know exactly what you mean about those narrow passageways, the intricate ‘lacework’ and archways that you find in the older cities. Most of all I love looking at the people, their faces, it kinda gives you true spirit of the place.
>>>>this is Ait Benhaddou. anyone see the movie ‘gladiator’? apparently it was filmed here.
I knew it!
This is such a great thread - its not boring at all:)
These houses remind me of the time when my family visited some caves in Saudi Arabia. There were whole structures built inside the cave including stairs if you believe that. I can't remember which city that was in but it was a very inspiring experience, really takes you back a couple of centuries. We used to have pics maybe I'll dig 'em out and post some of the less hideous ones.
i, myself loved learning about different cultures..so those zawaj ones and some other ones i have seen before
Btw, that music clip is kind of like tribal music from baluchistan and Mauritania reminded me of kay one of penpal from malaysia used to live with an aunty from Mauritania in england..and i was amazed to see that her family looked like a pakistani family.
Lot of place names that you mentioned here rings a bell..i have read stuff as a child in urdu and i think some places mentioned here were in old PTV history plays.
Lastly, it was nice to learn that Gladiator was shot in Ait Benhaddou
