**Ferrari duo thrive at Silverstone
Michael Schumacher is within touching distance of his fifth world title after cruising to victory at the British Grand Prix on Sunday.**
The world champion led his team mate Rubens Barrichello home as the Ferrari pair thrived in difficult conditions at Silverstone.
Juan Pablo Montoya started the race in pole position but could only manage third, and BAR enjoyed a memorable day with Jacques Villeneuve and Olivier Panis fourth and fifth respectively.
While Schumacher sped to only his second win in Britain but his 60th in total, the local hopes gave the home crowd little to cheer.
David Coulthard struggled with traction problems and slow pit stops and trailed home out of the points, while Jenson Button was forced to retire shortly before the end.
Allan McNish, participating in his first British Grand Prix, didn't even manage to start the race after engine problems on the grid.
Barrichello stalled before the formation lap and was forced to start from the back, but the Brazilian rose to the occasion and arguably produced the drive of the day.
After cutting through the back markers with ease, Barrichello outpaced the Renault drivers and had no trouble getting past the McLarens as Ferrari's superior tyres paid dividends.
Intermittent showers caused havoc with those using Michelen wets, including McLaren and Williams, while Barrichello and Schumacher stole a march with their Bridgestone intermediate tyres.
The Bridgestones proved perfect on a track which was slippery rather than drenched, and the Ferrari pair both cruised past Montoya to set up another one-two for the Italian team.
The Colombian fought hard to hold on but Barrichello completed his wonderful surge through the field to finish behind Schumacher and take second place in the drivers' championship.
As for the world champion, he can now take the title at the French Grand Prix on July 21 if he wins the race and his Ferrari team mate fails to make the podium.
