Re: Money: Love, Hate Relationship
Saima, there is nothing wrong with you! You are fine and thank God untouched by todays societies materialistic madness.
I don't like this craze of people who already have a normal mobile telephone, and each time a new models comes out they run to the stores to buy it while their other mobile phone is still working! My older brother got so crazy, he went to buy the one which also takes pictures and kept urging me to get one too at the time! I'm not rich and I don't want to waste money on things like that! I have a photo camera which I've had for years which is still fine for me if I want to take a picture [even my photo camera is old fashioned according to my brother, he was shocked when I got a free digital camera for signing up somewhere and I gave it to him because I already have a normal camera, he said I'm nothing if I don't at least own a digital camera! I doubt it if he can still be cured...]. And what about television sets? I still have an old small tv. It has different channels, it has colour and it's fine for me. Yet most people who visited me, kept remarking how small my tv is and how I should get a large one. Or that I should buy a car, it's too expensive and while it is easier when you have little children, we go everywhere by bike and public transport. Yet, to many people I am nothing because I don't have a car! How stupid is that? Or my carpet, some silly people remarked to me, when I just moved, that I should not have chosen a carpet, but a wooden floor, which is very much in fashion nowadays here. But the carpet was super cheap and it's oké a wooden floor is much more expensive. Why spend more money than necesary?
People around me are very very materialistic and never seem to be satisfied. Things you buy should be of good quality, well as good as you can afford anyway and it should be NECESSARY. The economy here is difficult right now, jobs are hard to find, I don't understand why people are still so materialistic!
I wish there were people here like you! You have a fine healthy refreshing mentality. Don't change. :)
