moms and dads

at wat age did ur kids started reading?
what is da best way to help them to read?
my son is 5 yrs old and he’s been attending phonics classes but he’s too lazy to use his phonics knowledge when reading/spelling.
with numbers he’s way too fast, even doing 2 digits addition/subtraction mentally.
is it true boys are slower with languages and faster with numbers?

Re: moms and dads

My son was reading by 5...as was a fast reader...and is now in the gifted programme..we went to the library and book store regularly...
Reading..a story before bedtime..really helps..
But my daughter was a late reader...i guess it differs from child to child..:)

Re: moms and dads

my boy is 10 months old and already he is reading tolstoy, and although I have forbidden him to do so, I have caught him toying with differential equations.

Re: moms and dads

^ LOL :) My daughter's preschool teacher always said that every parent thinks their child is a genious!

My kids all started reading around the age of 4-5, I think mostly because they grew up in an environment where they were surrounded by books from the time they were babies. My husband and I both love to read, and our kids had far more books than toys, and we went to the library at least once every week. While everyone learns to read at a different pace, I think environment is definitely important. Does your son see you reading? do you read to him? In my experience, boys aren't necessarily more proficient with math, it has a lot more to do with individual personality. Take him to the library, and let him select books he is interested in.

Re: moms and dads

Noor is working with phonics in her montessori program at preschool and, according to her first report card, is well ahead. She is already recognizing and pronouncing three letter words.

As for Aydin…what can we say…Pir ki aulaad tau aisee hi hogi na?

Re: moms and dads
