Re: Moms 2014

Soon-to-be mommies, have you packed your hospital bag yet? Just packed mine this weekend.. feels like a BIG mental milestone gulp

Here’s what I packed so far:
For baby - 2 onesies, 2 sleepsuits, diapers, swaddle cloth, 2 hats, 2 warm vests, 1 woollen sweater

For me - maternity pads, maternity disposable undies, nursing bras, breast pads, nipple cream, toiletries kit, 1 nightsuit, 1 going-home outfit, comfy long tee for labor (may end up wearing the hosp gown after all, but just in case)

Also packed some energy bars and easy to munch snacks, and of course camera with fully charged battery

Anything I’m missing?

Re: Moms 2014

^ you’re good! to add: maybe pack some socks, consider taking a pillow from home in a colourful cover so the nurses don’t mistake it for a hospital pillow, and pack some flip flops- one pair in your current size, one pair in a size larger in case you have swelling post delivery. i walked out barely fitting into size 9 flip flops because my edema was so bad. you’ll definitely be in the hospital gown for labour- i think they make you change when they admit you, but keep the long t-shirt anyhow. and make sure your nightsuit has a button front top for easier nursing. might also be a good idea to pack a couple of them in case you need to stay longer. the bleeding can get messy and it’s good to have a change on hand. keep some change for the vending machine for your hubby’s late night snacks and coffee, and consider packing a change of clothes and toiletries for him too in case he needs to stay overnight. don’t forget the chargers for your phones too.

all i’ve done is gone and bought a bunch of stuff and its sitting in the car still. i need to find a bag to put all of this in and i have no idea what baby clothes to pack. doh!

Re: Moms 2014

^Thanks SGC! Good tip on the flipflops and vending machine change. And yes, need to pack for the hubby too.

Re: Moms 2014

Yup packed my bag too

Here’s what I packed

Cameras and iPad+chargers
PJ’s for myself (to wear during my stay in the postpartum suite)
Knee high socks (hospitals are cold)
Slippers
Shawl for breastfeeding when I have visitors
Gum
Chapstick and other toiletries+mini makeup bag to freshen up after baby arrives
Hair brush and headbands
Nursing bra and breast pads
Pacifier for baby
Coming home outfit for baby (the hospital provides everything baby will need during those two days at the hospital)
Granola bars for myself … just cause
A change of clothes for my husband and some of his toiletries

Pads and disposable mesh panties are provided by the hospital so I won’t need to pack those.

Re: Moms 2014

And here’s a VERY comprehensive hospital bag list- My Lovely Baby Bump: Packing the Ultimate Hospital Bag!

Re: Moms 2014

I dont know what the huge lists are for when it comes to hospital bags .. For me , I fretted out so much coz it was my first time , but eventually I realized I needed only the following:

Baby clothing for three days and nappies + cotton balls + towel
For me : Sanitary pads + disposible underwears + Shampoo, body bath, tooth brush and paste + towel

I took with me one lipstick and a pencil liner but didnt feel like using it even once !! hair brush yes !

One pair of clothes that I wore to the hospital and soon after was in the hospital gown. Used the same clothes to wear back out of the hospital 4 days later. In between I preferred the hospital gown coz it was so much easier. Or a Maxi would do!

That’s it. Nothing more needed. Food was being provided by the hospital. Was taking so many pain killers, didnt feel like munching on snacks still husband got me fruit which lay on the side table.

Re: Moms 2014

My hospital didn’t provide much of anything- one pair of those amazing mesh granny underwear post surgery and of course those massive pads, a hospital gown, medications and meals, of course, but that’s it. We had to bring everything else ourselves, including diapers for the kid and wipes. Maybe it’s the Canadian health system but I think the US also gives you more because you pay for your hospital stay whereas here it is covered by the government? How is it in the UK?

Re: Moms 2014

Baby Haider is here Alhamdulilah.
