Are there any hadith on what you see at the moment of death?
One of my family friends was an Islamist politician tortured for his faith, who later became a minor published Islamic scholar and was extremely devout right through to his death in a hospital in Medina (he claimed and received political asylum in Saudi Arabia in the 1970s).
His daughter was by his side when he passed. She later told us that he was reciting the kalimah over and over again, then stopped. He opened his eyes, seemed to see something ahead of him, broke into a big smile and died.
Is there likely to have been something that he could see as he died that no one else in the room could?
I'm not sure about the authenticity.....nor i have any source at hand....
but i think i've heard from my mother.....the person who is to die can see the angel who comes there to take his soul out of the body.....
if the person was good/righteous....he'll be happy to see this angel.....
n if he was a bad person it will be the opposite....
having said that....i don't think we should establish any opinions based on that....its something about which only Allah knows !!
may we all die in peace n with some good deeds!
amen!
There is hadith to the effect that the dying person is “given glad tiding with the pleasure of Allah and His blessings” thus the reaction of him just before giving away his soul.
Imam Bukhari related that the messenger (S.A.W.) said, “Whoever loves to meet Allah, Allah loves to meet him, and whoever hates to meet Allah, Allah hates to meet him.” Aishah then asked, "we hate death” the prophet (S.A..W.) replied, “that’s not what I meant; when the believer is about to die, he is given glad tiding with the pleasure of Allah and His blessings, so there is nothing in front of the believer better than that, so he loves to meet Allah and Allah loves to meet him. And also when the non-believer is about to die, he is told about the punishment of Allah that will fall on him, so there is nothing more disliked to him than that, so hates to meet Allah and Allah hates to meet him.”
Maybe brother Gupguppy can give the correct address of this hadith.
In Qur'an on several places it is mentioned that.................
"When they (Angels of death) cast out the soul of Kafirs, they do this in a hard way. They cast it out by beating it, by punishing it. And Kafirs feel so difficulty at this time. And they announce their award of hell at that time. And when they cast out the souls of Mo'mineen, they do this in a gentle way. Very lightly and they pay Salaam and announce the award of Jannah at that time."

Check out the event where Hazrat Salman Farsi speaks to a dead. Apparently, it is painful for the good uns aswell.
Generally, i've heard stories of people who have had close encounters with death, describe seeing their own body lying there, as a third person /outsider looking in on the situation. Whatever they try to say/do has no response from the people standing around the body (i.e family, doctors)). Have heard it quite a few times, so maybe it has some truth to it. or maybe thats what they call coma, ive no idea.
My father in law was in the hospital when he died. A few weeks before, he started talking in his sleep saying "I am not ready to go yet, send your horses back".
The night before he died, he looked to the ceiling and said "Come back in the morning, I only travel during the morning", and he died at Fajar time.
I have heard this from many people, that they know when they are going to die few months or weeks beforehand.
Whenever I talked to my grandpa on the phone, he would ask when I was going to visit him in Pakistan. I would tell him, I am coming in April and he would always say "that is too late". He died one day before the month of April started.
However I don't believe people will know they will die in weeks/months time. Its probably something more psychological than definitive. Maybe closer to the time- reason being my granmother died not long ago and on the night before she had a dream where she saw her mother who said she will be seeing her very soon. When she mentioned the dream it was brushed aside as just a dream. She died later that day.
A distant uncle of ours who died over a year ago spent much of his last weeks in hospital as his health declined. As it did so he told his wife that he kept 'seeing' his brothers/sisters (all deceased) in front of him.
