Dil se maine poocha, ki ishk ki raah,
Kis taraf meherbaan padti hai,
Kaha unne ki na yeh Hindustan,
Na yeh su-e-Isfahan padti hai,
Yeh doraaha jo kufr-o-deen ka hai,
Dono ke darmiyaan padti hai.

Let me try. Though i would like to know how come you keep on listening to poetry of 'asatida' like Sauda and your Urdu is weak.

The central idea is : path of love is full of terrible things. Once you decided to walk on this way, then forget about facilities and convenience.

Its like dwindling between 'belief' and 'disbelief'.

I can give you an easy to understand example, if you ever watched Star Plus soaps.

Hmmm its a bit personal but maybe if you know why you can explain it a bit better. My partner for 7 years decided he doesnt love me anymore sent me this. Maybe you can explain it a bit better now. And honestly be truthful no offence will be taken. My urdu isnt very good.

okay.. then we should go for line by line understanding.

Dil se maine poocha, ki ishk ki raah,
Kis taraf meherbaan padti hai,

(I asked my heart, which way is the path of love? )

Kaha unne ki na yeh Hindustan,
Na yeh su-e-Isfahan padti hai,

  • It said neither in Hindustan (India) nor on way to Isfahan (city of Iran)

Yeh doraaha jo kufr-o-deen ka hai,
Dono ke darmiyaan padti hai.

(It lies in between the dilemma... dilemma between kufr (disbelief) and deen (belief / faith)

To summaries: To find or to get true love is not an easy task. Sometimes, we assume that we found that and we keep on living with this belief, but circumstances changes and we started disbelieving / contradicting our previous thoughts.

same is the case with me but on a different level. my would be wife is has a PhD in Hindi Literature from Banaras Hindu University and her Urdu is just OK while i graduated from AligaRh Muslim University and my Hindi is not that great as compared to Urdu. :(

we have to learn a lot from each other! :)
