Mohammad Yousuf is back!

good one :hehe:

WOW!!! I can't believe it. Yousuf is willing to take his retireement decision back. This is biggest news which no one expected to hear.

‘I can play under any captain’ - Mohammad Yousuf

Former Pakistan captain Mohammad Yousuf is ready to come out of retirement sooner rather than later, further broadening the possibility of an appearance at some point for Pakistan in the summer.
Yousuf, who announced his sudden retirement after a win-less tour of Australia, had said recently he was targeting the tour of UAE later this year to make a return, but the team’s struggles in the first Test against Australia at Lord’s may have prompted him to change his mind.
Pakistan made scores of 148 and 289 with only one batsman, Salman Butt, managing to pass fifty. They lost 11 of their wickets to Shane Watson and the part-time spinner Marcus North.
Though their bowlers competed well, the batsmen fell short mainly due to the lack of experience in the middle order, which was missing the pedigree of Yousuf and Younis Khan for differing reasons.
In the immediate aftermath of the Lord’s loss speculation centred on the PCB sending out an SOS to Yousuf, but Ijaz Butt denied that was the case. The matter of Yousuf and Younis’s return was considered at a meeting the chairman held with team management to appoint a new captain, but was deferred until after the second Test against Australia, officials insisting they were happy with the performances of debutantes Azhar Ali and Umar Amin.
“I am available any time for my national team,” Yousuf said in Karachi. "If the team doesn’t need me I stand retired. But if I’m needed, I am ready and available to serve my country. **If PCB invites me with respect I will definitely go and join the team." **
Salman, 25, was appointed captain after Shahid Afridi announced another unexpected retirement from Tests. Afridi was named captain for the entire tour of England but quit after the Lord’s defeat saying he wasn’t enjoying Test cricket after all.
Yousuf has had problems in the past with Shoaib Malik when he was captain but said he was willing to play under Salman. “It’s a PCB decision (appointing Salman) and everybody should respect it,” Yousuf said. “I can play under any captain and have never felt degraded playing under anyone.”
Yousuf added that he was in touch with the PCB chairman, who was kept aware of his plans to return.
Yousuf was the captain during Pakistan’s shambolic tour of Australia, where the team came under fire for their performances. The PCB responded by penalising seven players it believed were responsible for the defeats, Yousuf among them. He and Younis were banned indefinitely, and as a mark of protest, Yousuf announced he was quitting the game “for now.”
He was the only one among the seven punished players not to appeal against the sanctions, despite the PCB leaving the door open for him to return. However, since Yousuf didn’t respond to those messages from the board the national selectors could not consider him for the tour of England.

**Ijaz Ahmed hints at Yousuf return **

LEEDS: Pakistan assistant coach Ijaz Ahmed has given the strongest hint yet a recall for former captain Mohammad Yousuf is being considered.

Yousuf and fellow senior batsmen Younis Khan, who has been playing county cricket for Surrey, were both given indefinite bans after Pakistan’s 3-0 series loss in Australia this year.

But the fall-out from Pakistan’s 150-run loss in the first Test against Australia at Lord’s last week has led to speculation at least one of Yousuf or Younis could be brought back into the fold.

Although Pakistan officials have made it clear the second and final Test against Australia, which starts at Headingley here on Wednesday, will be too soon for either of the former skippers to be recalled, one of them could return for the subsequent four Tests against England.

And there is a vacancy to fill after former captain Shahid Afridi, having announced his retirement from the five-day format following the Lord’s loss, was ruled out of the remaining Tests that Pakistan are playing in England with a side strain.

“Yousuf can replace Afridi but the management haven’t decided yet who will come,” Ijaz told reporters at Headingley here on Monday. “It could come out in a couple of days.”

Ijaz added: “These are the only two players we are talking about, Younis Khan and Yousuf. Let’s see, it might be decided about Yousuf. Yousuf might be coming here.”

Opener Salman Butt, now promoted from vice-captain to captain, was the only Pakistan batsman to make fifty in either innings at Lord’s, with scores of 63 and 92, in a match where the side had two debutants at numbers three and four in Azhar Ali and Umar Amin.

“He was the vice-captain as well. I hope he can manage this,” said Ijaz.

“We have done a lot of talking to him and he has played really well and is shaping up well. I think he is getting mature and now he has got the responsibility as well. I think he will come good for that.”

Pakistan’s batsmen struggled against the swinging ball at Lord’s and Headingley could provide similar conditions.

Ijaz though urged the players to follow his example as he recalled his innings of 141 and 52 in the drawn second Test against England at Headingley back in 1996.

“I toured here in 96 and scored a hundred at Headingley and in the second innings I scored a 50 as well,” Ijaz said. "I told them the best thing to do is leave the ball outside off stump and the short ball.

“These are the two areas we are working on. Hopefully this will bring something positive,” added Ijaz, with Pakistan looking to end a record run of 13 straight Test defeats by Australia.

Yousuf announced his retirement after being banned and he was the only one of seven players censured after the Australia tour who did not appeal against sanctions imposed by the Pakistan Cricket Board.

However, Younis’s ban has since been lifted while Yousuf has said he is willing to represent Pakistan again.

Re: Mohammad Yousuf is back!

Just as an FYI - you now have another BUTT captaining the team.

But this Butt has been delivering much better stuff than the ‘head-butt’ :hehe:

Re: Mohammad Yousuf is back!

It shouldn’t come as any surprise, but it would seem that Mohammad Yousuf’s “retirement” from international cricket may not be as final as most people would assume the term retirement means.

Re: Mohammad Yousuf is back!

I don't know why people are making such a big deal about Yousuf retirement and him coming back. Michael Jordon retired and came back several times. Its nothing. Don't over think. Its clear his team and Cricket needs him and he can still deliver.
