Mohammad Yousuf intent on staying on as captain

Mohammad Yousuf has insisted he will stay on as captain despite Pakistan’s staggeringly unsuccessful tour of Australia. The PCB chairman had earlier called for a change in captaincy following the conclusion of the tour, but Yousuf maintained the results in Australia didn’t warrant him stepping down from his post. Pakistan’s chief of selectors, Iqbal Qasim, offered his resignation in the immediate aftermath of Pakistan’s 5-0 loss in the ODIs, but Yousuf wasn’t willing to follow suit.

“If the chief selector has resigned it’s his thinking,” Yousuf told reporters on his return from Australia. “I didn’t do badly as captain, not as badly that I should resign or quit. I accepted captaincy when no one was willing to take captaincy for the tours. I took it [captaincy] only because of the country and will continue for the country in future.”

Yousuf took over the reins when Younis Khan quit citing dissent within the team and took a temporary break from international cricket. Since then, Pakistan drew a Test series in New Zealand 1-1, before the capitulation against Australia. They had fought hard in Melbourne and especially in Sydney, where they failed to chase 176, but ended up losing all three Tests.

“Under the circumstances we went there, I think we did well to draw the series in New Zealand. Our players were inexperienced but I think we did well in the Australia Tests,” Yousuf said

Re: Mohammad Yousuf intent on staying on as captain

So mr. Yousuf can you kindly explain what can possibly be worse than a complete whitewash in the Test and ODI series? How is that not doing 'as' bad? In the test series, we lost a match from where it was nearly impossible to lose, in the ODI series, we showed ZERO fight up untill the last game, and surprise surprise mr. Yousuf...you werent captaining or playing that game!

You showed your retardedness by not praising Khurrum Manzoor on his fighting innings of 77 of almost 250 deliveries, which by the way, was a type of innings you couldnt play on the whole NZ or Aussie tour. Instead you told the media that he needs to go back and work on his technique. Wow, what a way for a captain to motivate a fellow player.

You once again showed your retardedness by staring at Salman Butt for a good couple minutes after he run you out, and later came out and blasted him in front of the media knowing he still has to bat tomorrow to try and save the match. Yeah, those remarks by calling him lazy and selfish must have boosted his confidence.

Your idea of not wanting a specialist fielding coach when we dropped 20+ catches in the series is a great one as well. You call it a grassroot problem...well I wonder why our U-19 team fields a million times better than the senior team? To top it off, the captain himself is the WORST fielder of the lot, and keeps getting worse instead of better. Ever heard of the term practise makes perfect? Yeah, if you keep practising something, you might not always become perfect, but gauranteed you will get better. But no, this will not get through your thick skull.

Majority of our senior players have no self respect whatsoever. If Yousuf had any shame or pride, he would have resigned himself from captaincy after putting up such a pathetic effort, as a captain and batsman.

I guess Yousuf is heading down road where zaleel ho ke, jootey kha ke, gaaliyaan kha ke team se nikaala jaye ga.
