I’d say it’s typical Pakistani behavior… as a nation, we’re plagued with a seniority complex… in every sector, be it industry, be in government, or sports. Everyone who’s a “senior” carries with him a sense of entitlement, and feels snubbed if it isn’t accorded to him. Merit and performance are secondary.
To get over our problems, we need to overcome the ranks and hierarchical system. I’m not sure if such a system is even needed in a sports setting.
Anyways, many of us thought something was wrong in the last match against NZ, and these proceedings just substantiate those doubts. After reading the first few posts in this thread, I thought to myself, why Younis just doesn’t adopt a more staunch stance against the players revolting against him and replace them for sometime. It’s not like we have anything to lose… if they’re not performing deliberately, their replacement has a better chance of performing because they don’t have the same agenda. In a leadership position, you can’t really please everyone. That being said, if the majority of the team is against him, then it really has to be something that’s wrong with his approach to managing them as a unit. So, perhaps giving up captaincy is the best option.
I’m not sure if MoYo is such a good choice for a captain, but then again, I haven’t seen him lead much at all. It’s just his laid back attitude that concerns me at this time, but I’d like to be proven wrong.
