this song is indeed one the best of Rafi’s. with the advent of Kishore Kumar, he had a lil lull in his career but then he had a comeback with this movie and Laila Majnu with a bang…he kept his top position until his death.**

Well he has been singing for a long time and the time was changing.
Chichorpan and flashy songs were becoming more common than melodious songs. **Nothing against Kishore **and his great songs but when one looks at real music and melody the asian pride, **Rafi is unbeaten.
**His masterpiece which cannot be sung probably even by Kishore is this one.
The quick change of scale and keeping with the notes is something only Rafi could do.
I have seen people trying to sing this song and they start coughing or take a pause to catch up with scale. Read the comments on this video also.

**TRUE…he was unmatched but we have to admit that Kishore was also a legend and he was known for his own way of singing. he too has some of the great numbers to his credit.
Rafii’ had the versatility. he could adapt to the voices and characters of the one’s he sang for like on one end he was perfectly suited for Shammi Kapoor and on the other side he was like made-for Johnny Walker. This song is an example of that beautiful confluence.**

**YES, he had several live performance with London’s Symphony Orchestra and he sang ALL Rafii songs which were a hit.
Rafii’ saab actually at one time tried to groom Mahendra Kapoor as his successor. He was a great singer indeed but lacked versatility in his voice to suit the whole array of actors. He had some nice words for Raf’ii saab as a tribute on his passing away. a great era came to an end wityh Mahendra Kapoor’s death. **

Sorry don't know Mahendra Kapoor. But now that you mentioned, I have listened to his one better song Neelay Gagan Ke Talay. But when he sang Aaaaaaaa in the middle, he was out of sync and seemed suddenly screaming. Not at all close to Rafi or even Sonu Nigham.

well, i think he was one of the trained ustaad singer and he knew how to sing ALAAP for which he was KNOWN as an expert. he sang thousands of songs and he was one of the leading singers at the time.

Sonu is inspired by rafi and has said that he is a "mohd rafi fanatic". and there is no doubt that sonu did a wonderful job when sang all those rafi songs.
