Pakistan’s banned left-arm pacer Mohammad Amir is unlikely to get a reprieve from the ICC before the 2015 World Cup, a senior official of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said.
“The ICC has indicated that even if there is some relaxation given to Amir in his five year ban, it will come after the World Cup,” the official told PTI on condition of anonymity.
PCB chairman Najam Sethi reportedly met ICC top officials in Dhaka to discuss the Amir issue and was told he cannot be treated as an exception as he had committed a serious offence and violated the anti-corruption code. The PCB last year asked the ICC executive board to review Amir’s case on humanitarian grounds, keeping in mind his age.

(Getty Images)The ICC had formed a special committee to look into the matter and the existing anti-corruption clauses and submit their recommendations. “The committee has so far not submitted the findings and are expected to do so at the next meeting in April. But a senior official of the ICC told Sethi that even if Aamir gets some relaxation in his ban it would not be more than four to five months which means he is out of the World Cup,” the official said.
Amir, former captain Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif were all banned for different terms in February, 2011, for their involvement in the 2010 spot-fixing scandal in England. Amir was given a minimum ban of five years. ICC chief executive Dave Richardson also told Pakistani reporters in Dhaka that no leniency could be shown to Amir as it would send out wrong message to other players.
Amir himself is desperate to make a comeback to at least domestic cricket but under the terms of his ban, at present he can’t even use the PCB facilities at the National Cricket Academy. The PCB is now keen to get clearance from the ICC for Amir to train at the PCB facilities and under its coaches and trainers so that he is ready to return to top cricket once his ban ends officially in September, 2015.
Re: Mohammad Amir unlikely to get reprieve before World Cup 2015
The reason the ban will not be lifted before the world cup because ICC is powerless in front of BCCI and BCCI wont want India to face Pakistan at Perth with Amir bowling on that pitch. Simple.

agree Ehsan bhai, the tribunal that banned the trio acknowledged that Amir's punishment was harsh, however, there was nothing that could be done at that time since 5 yr ban was the least punishment under ICC code of conduct. The tribunal did recommend that ICC should revisit their code of conduct that never happened for obvious reasons. I was really hoping that ICC would relax Amir's punishmenbt after the Court of Arbitration decided to upheld punishments for asif and butt.

what just one year remaining in his ban? time flies man. Hope he is working hard to stay fit but I have a doubt that he will be as good as he was when he comes back...

Laughable logic !!! So it was BCCI which made Amir to indulge in match fixing. Blame everything on BCCI. BCCI is powerful but would not do these sort of things.
You are giving too much credit to BCCI. They are more interested in IPL games rather than the world cup.

Well said. It has become fashionable to throw the kitchen sink at big bad BCCI. Electricity not available. Blame BCCI.
Anyway I have been against such severe punishments regardless of nationality. I recall disagreeing with quite a few posters here who wanted severe Punishment for some Pakistani players caught up in match fixing (I forget the players name).
But now some have changed the stance. Simply because Express Amir will cause Indian batsmen to quake in their boots.
they forget military medium at Perth is enough to achieve same results.

I feel no punishment is small enough for match fixers. I am not just talking about Pakistani players :D
I remember bunking my school and watching matches standing outside a shop in the hot sun. Later I came to know that the match was all but fixed. It is just cruel on the fans.
