Two answers:

 1. Have people discussing Kashmir, Chechnya, Palestine and Burundi all been to those places? Also, you don't know anything about me, so don't assume.
Naturally I am not assuming that is why I asked the questions instead of presupposing for you. You said "And within India, there is still the Tu gujrati che mai marvadi mi, but yes, not to the deep level within Pakistan" and I think that to make that kind of judgement you must have lived there or something...so have you? And I fail to see the paralell between Kasmir Chechnya and Burundi and the question that I asked.

 1. What do you characterize as a "freedom" movement? We all got our freedom in 1947, unless haven't read your history. If freedom is disrupting and demolishing lives and ties that are already free to begin with, that is oppression not freedom.
Instead of trying to oneup me it would be better if you just answered the question. The freedom in 1947 and oppression is your view but I was just asking how many areas in India are there where people are struggling for freedom or in your words disposed somehow to "oppression"...so how many areas are there? The answer should be a number please.

BTW putting people in harm's way in places such as Jallianwaala Bagh and on the Tehreek e Hijrat might also seem like "oppression" don't you think?

khan_sahib, here’s the difference…from my understanding, mohajir or urdu speaking is not an ethnicity… they are made of separate ethnicities like hyderabadi, bihari, pathans, up’ians etc etc…on the other hand, punjabi, sindhi, balochi, pashtoon are all distinct ethnicities…

i was born in libya, brought up mostly in karachi, my roots and main family home being in rawalpindi, and i came to america in late teens for college and now visit pindi and karachi both in holidays as my immediate family and some relatives r in khi but extended family in pindi…lekin i always refer to myself as a punjabi and a karachiite..dont see anything wrong with it at all…am proud of both these identities :jhanda:

btw, the reason most non-sindhi karachiites don’t call themselves sindhi is because when u tell someone u r sindhi it usually means u belong to a sindhi speaking background, these r the ppl who usually come to karachi from interior sindh and speak sindhi…

and the reason most karachiite punjabis specify that they are also punjabis, or pashtoons specify they are pashtoons, is because otherwise ppl assume they are either urdu speaking or sindhis…which is actually quite an erroneous assumption usually made by ppl who have never lived in khi or had a first hand experience of the city because karachi is the most multiethnic city in pakistan with almost equal numbers of ppl from all the provinces…or atleast thats the karachi i have been exposed to..

anyways…the bottom line is we are all pakistanis…

pakistan zindabad :jhanda:

I dont see you going around as UPite

or Lucknowi

Either every body is Pakistani or every body is the state where they are from ..........

Naqshandi

you can be a Pakistani, and also belong to a subgroup, both are not mutually exclusive. I dont really go around forcing my lucknavi-ness on people :)

its kinda like US, u know, ppl are proud to be american yet they are also texan, or georgian or newyorkers, an identiti based on where they are, yet at the same time, there are ppl who have maintained their identities based on ethnicity, chinese, and italian or irish or german.

Now ehether someone goes around saying that they are chinese-americans who are texans, thats a whole diff issue.

I personally dont see an issue with it either way. some peopel identify with their ethnicity and region more some dont.

:teary2:… if majority of Pakistaniz knew there there was a Last Sermon of Prophet Mohammed PBUH, they would have never called themselves Mohajir, Punjabi, Pushtoon and what not.

It is infact a manifesto for the mankind.

“All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over black nor a black has any superiority over white except by piety and good action. Learn that every Muslim is a brother to every Muslim and that the Muslims constitute one brotherhood. Nothing shall be legitimate to a Muslim which belogs to a fellow Muslim unless it was given freely and willingly. Do not therefore do injustice to yourselves. Remember one day you will meet Allah and answer your deeds. So beware do not astray from the path of righteousness after I am gone.”

smoothguy

the problem is not with identifying with an area or region, the problem occurs when based on that identity you treat others badly and use that as a divisive force rather than another colour to the collage of a nation and of mankind.

Couple of differences FRAUD

1/ states in here all speak same language not sindhi punjabi pushtu or urdu

2/ people in each states DO NOT apPear different than from other (save some little eccentricies of texan or californian

3/THERE IS NO COMPLEX oF superiority based on Number of Punjabis (60% of nation )

Cultural dominence (Punjab da Munda ) as if that is supposed to be a DEGREE from Harvard ,

Punjab Bahangra as if that is the ultimate of everythuing & great turn off for those who like it little bit will stop patronising it

wHEN PRIDE BLENDS INTO DISDAIN FOR NON PUNJABI THEN IT ISNT normal PRIDE OF ETHNICITY but rascism.VERY FINE THIN LINE :nono:

naqshbandi maybe US was the incorrect example, or not quite at par, but closer to our model is UK with english, irish, welsh and scots, each proud of their identity and some actually use it as a basis for prejudice but most dont.

read my previous post, just the one before yours and u will see that we are on the same page with this. differences and identities and cultural richness is something to be prud of and to add to what this world id but when it turns into a prejudice it becomes a problem.
