Moh asif, 6/49 and 5/70 against Karachi

He is continuing on with his good form

pcboard.com.pk in first innings he bowled 20 ouuta 60 overs and in second 14 ouuta 46, so this tells about his Attitude and match fitness too.

Re: Moh asif, 6/49 and 5/70 against Karachi

Allah karay we win the 2nd Test too, then we can give Asif a chance :D

otherwise drop Sami for Gul or Asif :)

Re: Moh asif, 6/49 and 5/70 against Karachi

He must have develped some skills that is why he is performing so well on a consistant basis.

Re: Moh asif, 6/49 and 5/70 against Karachi

He like Hasan Raza can only perform against domestic teams. I'll wait until he returns from a few succesfull seasons at the counties in UK.

Re: Moh asif, 6/49 and 5/70 against Karachi

^ bowling is totally different than batting .. he'll get far more opportunity to prove himself than Hasan did.

Re: Moh asif, 6/49 and 5/70 against Karachi

So you think performing in counties is a criteria to include someone in National Team? :nono: :snooty: I wonder why england was unable to build a strong team (in 90s) although ppl were performing in counties?

Re: Moh asif, 6/49 and 5/70 against Karachi

I would say give the guy chance in 2nd Test bring him on and if he is good than don’t waste him use him and groom him.

Re: Moh asif, 6/49 and 5/70 against Karachi

Asif is not in the team announced for the first two tests so he cant come in for the next one, neither is Umar Gul.

He has been given only one chance and that too agaisnt the Aussies as oppose to numerous chances that Raza got so the comparison is unfair. He has perfoemd well recently and should be a considered along with Umar Gul. We might as well kiss Shabbir's career goodbye if he is found guilty again.

Re: Moh asif, 6/49 and 5/70 against Karachi

Well he played that one game. Harsh to dub him yet, but he lacks pace. And unlike Shabbir he doesnt have 20 ft frame to rely on for variation.

Re: Moh asif, 6/49 and 5/70 against Karachi

Also unlike Shabbir he also has a smooth action with no bending of elbow so we can actually play him without worrying about the fact if he would be reported or not after the game.

Re: Moh asif, 6/49 and 5/70 against Karachi

First of all, PCB can change the list of 16 probables any time they want, especially if Shabbir and/or Shoaib can’t play. Secondly, according to Bob Woolmer, Asif has “improved beyond recognition” since his debut in Australia. And Woolmer formed this opinion even before Asif’s 10 wickets in the 3-day match at Lahore.

As for Hasan Raza, he was NEVER given numerous chances. Whatever little chance he was given, he did reasonably well. According to Osman Samiuddin’s article, last year when Pakistan was being whitewashed 3-0 by Australia, Steve Waugh was wondering why we weren’t playing Hasan Raza. Waugh of course remembers the fight Raza gave to the mighty Aussies at their peak in 2002 Test series against Australia (played in Sharjah). Raza scored two fighting fifties (maybe one or both unbeaten) against Warne & Co when every other batsman failed. So it’s not like he can’t play or only play against domestic opponents. He has consistently scored against domestic as well as international opponents in “A” teams. He also scored a matchwinning 71 not out in the 3-day match at Lahore against Flintoff, Harmison, & co, so it’s not like he’s at sea against these bowlers. He definitely deserves another chance. Remember, Saeed Anwar had a pair on his debut (TWO DUCKS)! By your logic, he should’ve been dropped for good after that performance, but see how he turned out.

Re: Moh asif, 6/49 and 5/70 against Karachi

Please read my post one more time and then maybe again and tell me where did I say drop Hasan Raza. I said Raza got numerous chances and yes he did, compared to Asif.

PCB can change the probables whenever they want since it is a home series but Rana Naved and Umar Gul should still get a nod before Asif since they have performed credibly internationally as well as domestically. Gul bowled well in the last test he played and also in the last few games he played domestically. Naved has been a permanent members of the ODI squad and performed credibally plus he also had a good season in county.

Although if you read my post maybe one more time you would realize I did say that Asif should be considered along with Umar Gul.

As far as Steve Waugh’s comments goes well I guess he knows more about Pakistani players then others. Let me think … didnt another former player Boycott also said Imran Nazir is breathtakingly talented batsman. But damn we didnt pay any attention to any of those former great players from others nations and picked whoever we felt like picking. Our bad, maybe next time we will take in consideration Waugh and Boycott and anyone else who would like to have a say in Pakistan team selection.
