Re: Moeen Ali banned from wearing Gaza wristbands
I think people should wear what they want. A times of India article raised some good points on this.If other players can wear ‘Help for Heroes’, why ca’nt Moeen Ali wear ‘Save Gaza’? - The Economic Times
I think Southie’s opinion is that the “help for heroes” wristband is for a charity which raises money for British veterans and army. Help for Heroes - UK Military Charity It is not focusing on an event like Iraq/Afghanistan where british army are needlessly there. Ali’s wristband focuses on an event..rather than saying “Palestine Zindabad” or “Support Palestinans” or saying support towards a charity. Personally, i think there’s not much difference and it’s just a matter of semantics.
Not really sure how India is related to this. The English cricket board support Ali and it’s the ICC umpire who is having issues. India actually supported Pakistan in the UN resolution against Israel’s actions in Gaza. You know while many European countries like the UK abstained from voting. They could have done the weak thing and abstained especially considering the religious nature of who is in government but they didn’t. Publicly, Indian govs have supported Palestinian rights internationally but at the same time they maintain relations like other countries.
