would you guys plz stop closing threads…i like the discussion part…as far as insults and putdowns go, i think i would choose to warn the user, kick em out, etc instead of closing a discussion…

I would assume closing the thread depends more as to where is the discussion heading…
I mean, lotsa discussion are started with good intention and discussing serious issues, but just grows into personal insults and meaningless brawls. None of us like it, but I guess some of us just get too emotional when they are defending their beliefs etc or attacking someone else’s ‘wrong’ beliefs …
If you feel, that the discussion was on something useful, you can always start a new thread continuing from where you want.
PS. Kicking ppl out is also a nice option

There is not point in continuation of a discussion, when everyone is acting so opinionated. SHia say they are right and sunnis say they are right. Oh well, only solution is close the thread.
Perhaps, we should not discuss the topics which we differ...?

c'mon the 'matam','sahih bukhari','ali' threads were going pretty good....religion is argumentative b/w two differnt sects...itz all good...i know we get outa control here and there..but discussion should continue.....
Im sure the moderator doesnt 'like' closing down threads. But what do u expect when sooner or later one out of every two posts do a rodney king and get battered to oblivion. Opinions and discussions are what make up this bulletin board. Fights and personal attacks are what break them. So its upto us to keep the threads void of such personal attacks.

Please consider the amount of time a volunteer moderator has to review several posts.
If people cannot remain civil and follow rules then mods have no choice but to close threads.
Trust me, they don't enjoy doing it. We don't like the look of our bulletin board with locks all over it. It just shows that our membership lacks manners, civility and decency.
Perhaps if members themselves played an active role in keeping the debate focused and free from abuse then mods would not get as fed up either.

X-Communist, people are warned and sometimes banned if the need arises as I am sure many of you have noticed. The threads you mentioned were closed simply because they needed to be closed. When people refuse to acknowledge the right of another person to believe whatever it is they wish to believe and therefore engage in ceaseless arguments that lead nowhere except perhaps to insults and personal attacks it cannnot be called a debate nor can it be classified as a 'good' discussion.
This forum is a place where people come to share information, learn from each other, and even debate. It is NOT a place to indulge in personal attacks or crusades defaming another's beliefs, values, and religion.

Thumbs up for Administrator and Moderators. I thank them for acting as a buffer between two conflicting parties going beyond the limits.
Limits we dont respect even in Sha’baan. A month in which a muslim get himself prepared for Ramadan.
Tomorrow Ramadan will start(depending on sighting of Crescent)and look at us what we are doing?.
Look at the threads on religious topics. They speak themself about us. Freedom has its limits too.We also have some responsibilities as a human being, as a citizen of a civilised society and as a believer. If we dont respect it some body will act and will fullfill his responsibilities. If no body will act then we are looking for a greater consiquences.
Wake up, ask for guidence and mercy of Allah in the month of Ramadan. This month is of great significance and importance to all Muslims of every sect. Hidaya comes from Allah and Allah alone ask for it in this blessed month.
Also please refrain in this month on worldly topics in gup shup. Ignore them. Do not respond to them. Do good and advice for good in this month of Ramadaan.
Once again I thank the Administration and moderators od Gup Shup for their actions in respect of Ramadaan.
