Some gupshup mods eavesdrop in gupshup chat. Last night Hong Kong Phooey was in the room as invisible. Is this behavior within Gupshup’s policies?. Please let me know either way.

Although if they find a member engaged in objectionable behavior, they will typically warn the member, and not simply take action rightaway without warning, from their hidden position.
It is important to note, that chat room is not moderated 24/7 so we expect members to conform to general standards maintained elsewhere on the forum, in the chat room as well, even if there are no mods online. Alternatively, members should email/PM screenshots to the Admin, if they find any other member breaking the rules in chat.
So a chat between two consenting adults in Private also monitored?

Well, firstly, its internet. Nothing is foolproof (as you very well know)
Secondly, if one of those "consenting" adults decides to take offence on anything, and sends a complaint to the Admin, action can be taken, because these "consenting" adults are still using GUPSHUP resources, as defined under the terms of usage as agreed in the Registration Agreement.
I hope this little legalese made the point clear. :~)
ps. Mods do not eavesdrop on members' PM or private chat sessions.
