Modi govt plans 1965 war carnival

This is not good for better relations with India. purane zakham taza karne ka koi faaeda?? When I was kid we learnt that Pakistan won this war but after many years, I was learnt that Pakistan actually lost the war. It is unfortunate that the efforts of real war heroes went down the toilet.

To me it is the repercussions of JI chief’s rants about Kashmir and arresting of Modi for Rs. 2 billilins. General Sharif has also started a new confrontation with India by saying “Pakistan and Kashmir are inseparable: General Raheel Sharif”. NS will eat ‘lohay ke chanay’ for trying to normalize relations with India.

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rightwing Hindu nationalist government has ordered India’s armed forces to organise a ‘carnival’ to mark 50 years of a war with Pakistan in 1965, The Telegraph reported on Tuesday.

The Kolkata-based paper said the three-week long event is set to reignite a debate on whether India lost on the negotiating table what it won on the battlefield.

“From September 1 to September 23 this year, on days coinciding with the duration of the war, the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force have been directed to organise tableaux, exhibitions, processions, public lectures and film shows. The venues would be in the heart of the national capital, on Rajpath, Janpath and around India Gate,” the paper said.

The proposed celebration appears to be part of a nationalist distraction Mr Modi’s government uses to change discussion away from the main theatre of politics where he has been criticised roundly at home and abroad for policy failures.

True enough, according to the paper, the war events are set to trigger public discourse on the legacy of the Congress government of the time headed by Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri with Yashwant Rao Chavan as defence minister.

The government’s objectives need not entirely be confined to pumping up national pride. There could be a political goal too, the paper said.

“Shastri has been identified with the slogan Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan — sections that are now perceived to be miffed with the Modi government because of the delay over one rank, one pension, farm distress and the land acquisition legislation. The government is unlikely to complain if the war carnival gives it an opportunity to ingratiate itself with farmers and soldiers.”

A major portion of the events planned during the ‘carnival’ are discussions on the post-war negotiations in Tashkent. Shastri died during the meetings in Tashkent.

An official account called The India-Pakistan War of 1965, a history (editor S.N. Prasad; general editor U.P. Thapliyal) issued by the ministry of defence’s history division — parts of which are not yet public — may be reviewed.

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar is personally supervising preparations for the events to mark the war, the Telegraph said.

In the Indian Army, there are many who believe that Shastri had surrendered at the talks in Tashkent in January 1966 the strategic Haji Pir pass that the army had captured.

The pass links Uri and Poonch on the Indian side but is today in Pakistan. Sources in the army say the pass is even today used by the Pakistani establishment to “push terrorists into India”.

In official records, India captured 1,920 sq km of Pakistani territory while Pakistan captured 550 sq km of Indian territory.

An official history by the government insinuates that Pakistan’s president during the 1965 war, General Ayub Khan, perceived India to be weak after its defeat by China in 1962, three years earlier. He wanted to take advantage of that and forcibly acquire Kashmir, the Telegraph report said.

Re: Modi govt plans 1965 war carnival

We didn’t lose.

Gen Raheel is absolutely doing the right by talking about Kashmir. He is doing what the gutless traitorous government should be doing all the time.

Re: Modi govt plans 1965 war carnival

Modi is a joker, the way he has been behaving is reinforcing my belief that he is an immature man. Best of luck to India to survive his term.

Re: Modi govt plans 1965 war carnival

Yep he is a joker.

His whole campaign was based on how he was going to deal with us.

Very slowly he has failed. We’ve made progress with Afghanistan, Karachi, China. A lot of internal terrorism has been dealt with.

He’s getting desperate, hence all the pot-shots their government has been taking at us.

General Raheel zindabad. If he can do something about these politicians before his term is up - and I’m sure he will- then happy days

Re: Modi govt plans 1965 war carnival

What a pathetic bunch of insecure hacks - ‘war carnival’, really? Celebrating the bloody wars now? Both countries should be mourning the loss of human lives and loss of peace in the region.

Good for NS, FO, and Gen. Raheel to start talking in the language that India understands. Enough of chasing this wild fantasy of Indo-Pak friendship. Far too many Pakistani are drenched in this wishy washy delirium.

Pakistan needs to realise that India is the enemy and will always be the enemy, so they better start working on improving their own fault lines which are being exploited by the enemy as we speak.

Re: Modi govt plans 1965 war carnival

Exactly.

The more BJP and Hindu extremists parties spewed anti Pakistan venom and decided to ‘teach a lesson’, the more I wanted Modi to come to power and I am not surprised how the coming of BJP extremists has helped Pakistan. As you said, Pakistan’s relations with Afghanistan has tremendously improved - it’s never been better. The CPEC has been signed and political bickering did not last for long once India’s opposition and RAW’s involvement to undermine the corridor became obvious. The situation in Karachi has improved a lot, BLA terrorists are being dealt with iron fist, apart from Zarb e Azb, the situation is FATA is being monitored with hawk eye.

Over the years, Pakistan was feeling lost and drained, but a hostile India who had made no secrets to further intensify the rivalry and cause harm has given Pakistan a whole new reason to re-charge the batteries and focus.

As with Gen. Raheel Sharif dealing with the politicians - remember he belongs to an honourable military family. He would like his name to be mentioned next to his brother Shaheed Major Shabir Sharif, and uncle Major Gen. Aziz Bhatti Shaheed, not Musharrad and Zia. I am pretty certain he would not do anything that would bring embarrassment to Pakistan’s Armed forces. He’s a true soldier.

Re: Modi govt plans 1965 war carnival

Agree with that. He’s an excellent soldier and a true patriot…which is why I think he’ll try and kick the arses of institutions such as NAB into gear to try and get something done.

He won’t stage any sort of takeover - which, even though I’m sick to death of these traitorous leeches we call ‘politicians’, is the correct thing for us in the long term. The constant Martial law-corrupt government- martial law-corrupt government cycle has led to where we are now.

Re: Modi govt plans 1965 war carnival

Corrupt, sold out and simply incompetent judges have caused just as much damage as politicians and generals. Pakistan judiciary has been a total failure and a mostly destructive force since the beginning. If the ‘bloody civilians’ show the same level of loyalty and professionalism that Army men exercise for their beloved institution - Pakistan wouldn’t be in this mess.

As with Gen. Raheel. It’s heartening to see him so popular with general public. He’s equally loved within the Army by young soldiers.

Thanks for Immy the Timmy and his political trolling for reducing the honourable General to a mere Umpire. In actual fact, it would Nawaz and his successor who would wish that he could give Gen. Raheel third, fourth or fifth extension. Simply because he would never do anything that would taint the name of great Major Shabir and Major Aziz Bhatti.
