Literally meaning of 'modesty' in arabic could be many i.e. 'balance', 'equal', 'equilibrium', 'protect' etc., but when its used in phrase than its meaning may vary. If we see this word appeard in any verse in Holy Quran than its mean 'protecting', i.e. privat parts. Modesty means to wear something in balance which will not caused to danger/harm (towards sin) to oneself and/or for others.
Modesty, is also defined by scholars is to create a matter of avoiding unwanted (bad/wrong/sinfull) event means to suppress self conviction for an act of prohibited. 'Haya' means 'coyness', 'pudency' and it served when one suppress from evil acts.
