Nothing can be enforced. But those households that preach modesty do so for both sexes. I grew up in a conservative neighbourhood. There, boys were not allowed to be on rooftop after a certain age, to respect privacy of neighbours. We were not allowed to befriend our cousins or neighborhood girls. In college it took my a few years to open up, even when I did I carried the guilt of as if I did something wrong.
Now there were other boys who were taught modesty in their house but they would be completely different once not in front of their parents. There was this son of Imam who had to keep a beard due to his father, in college, he would fold it and put a ring and that was quite a style. He had a tattoo on his shoulder, he would cover it up when he would go home. Then there were girls from conservative houses who would come in Chadar and face covered, but in college, would take it off, pull their trousers up all the way to reveal legs etc
But I must say, desis have specialized in one thing: Randi Rona. There is so much whining it?s depressive. I have stopped interacting even.
