God Bless Karachi Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal. God Bless Musharaf.
May the development of Karachi continue. Ameen
Re: Modern Day Karachi
^^ It looks like you got the best pics at the best of times (no rallies, no yelling politicans), the real image of Karachi is way muckier… no Lalukhet, no N. Nazimabad, no F.B Area here… those are the kind of places where most of Karachi is. Anyhow I do wish the development continues, although the city govt needs to boost up the development’s rate to match the current pop.'s needs.
By the way any idea when were these pics taken
?
Re: Modern Day Karachi
^ Not sure when they were taken, but here is the link where I got them from.
Re: Modern Day Karachi
U've posted them in the wrong forum.
Re: Modern Day Karachi
Believe me I was in Karachi during last quarter of 2006 and went almost to all these places, actual are negative of what is transpired here. These places looked like modified by the magic of digital technology e.g. there are no green grasses at High court and other places, too much traffic and public, pollution in the form of smoke, all these structures are defaced with smoke and blackened. These pictures show Karachi in different dimension.

True to some extent! Too many trees were cut during these developments! So sad!
Karachi to be made IT hub.
More good news for Karachi.
http://www.dawn.com/2007/03/26/local19.htm
KARACHI, March 25: The government is endeavouring to make Karachi an Information Technology (IT) hub.
This was stated by the Adviser to the Sindh chief minister on IT, Noman Saigal, here on Saturday.
He said that in the IT sector, special attention is being paid towards research and development.
The adviser further pointed out that educated and talented youngsters are being attracted towards the information technology sector, in which jobs will be created enabling opportunities for upward mobility.
The adviser said that cooperation of major IT firms in the country would also be sought for the purpose.
He stated that with the private sector coming to the fore for research and development, it would be possible to attain rapid progress in the IT sector.—APP

^^ In many cases without replantation :(... although I did hear on Dawn that since Sept. 2006 a 3-month tree-planting campaign was gonna be rampant in the city during which 500,000 trees would be planted alongside streets and stuff.

Mind you regroguy! My hometown Lalukhet has now got a very different outlook with two good underpasses and one flyover!
And my present town - Federal B Area has got lovely parks and play grounds which can not be find elsewhere in the city!
Will someone post the picture of Liaquatabad Underpass?
Re: Modern Day Karachi
One of the goods steps taken by the CDGK recently is the ban on use of plastic bags!
Some months back they tried to ban smoky vehicles but there was a great uproar and there was a great danger of ethinic riots in the city. The CDGK then had to roll back the plan!
Re: Karachi to be made IT hub.
I still think that environment and proper sewerage system are more important than IT. As long as the priorities aren't given their deserved attention this is in no way good news for Karachi--well, maybe apart from the greedy businessmen pigs who can't spend a damn penny on their dying poor fellows.
Re: Karachi to be made IT hub.
Yes, and the venture capital would be provided by Altaf the fatnecked jahil...

I assume the uproar was from our minibus and rikshaw driver community?
how can u do what is right when ppl dont want to do it and would make it into an ethnic issue.

Chundrigar Road to be completed in 3-4 months
The reconstruction and renovation work on one of the country’s most important thoroughfares — I.I. Chundrigar Road — would be completed in a short span of three to four months against the expected timeframe of one-and-a-half year. This was stated by City Nazim Mustafa Kamal while talking to newsmen after reviewing the ongoing work on the project here on Monday evening. “We will try to complete this road from Merewether Tower to Shaheen Complex in next three to four months,” he informed. The nazim inspected the pace of work on a section of the I.I. Chundrigar Road, from Tower to Habib Bank Plaza, which had been dug up and closed for vehicular traffic. He said that considering peoples’ problems due to the reconstruction of the road, the city government had decided to complete the task at the earliest. To a question, the nazim said that said that all underground water and sewerage lines had already been transferred while teams of power, telephone and gas departments were busy in the maintenance and relocating their respective underground lines passing beneath Mr Kamal said that after completion, the I.I.Chundrigar Road would be a model road in the whole country. He said that the State Bank of Pakistan had formed a committee comprising representatives of all financial institutions. They managed to collect Rs220million for the construction of the road, while rest of the amount, if any, would be borne by the city government. The estimated cost of the project is Rs210 million. He said that another advantage of the reconstruction of I.I. Chundrigar Road was that the rainwater drainage system for the old city areas including Kharadar would be restored. The nazim said that the city government had requested the Pakistan Railways for the temporary possession of Railway Ground for solving the parking problem. “They gave us a positive response but the matter would be decided by the ministry of Railways,” he added.

Long Live Mustafa Kamal. Let's hope BB does not turn Karachi into the killing fields as she did in the 90's. :)
