So our team is doing a communications training with my manager and its time to give mock presentations. I’m at a loss for what to use as a toipc. I don’t want to do anything serious and boring, need to get creative. I also want to use some humor to get my point across during the presentation and make it as much fun as possible. This is not really a formal presentation and we can either do a powerpoint or just stand there and talk, its kind of informal.
Talk about something that interests you, because you won’t be worried about trying to remember new information, and it will give your personality a chance to shine through. This way you may be able to crack a joke or two depending on the situation.
I went to a conference once where everyone on the spot by getting them to talk about something important to them for two mins. I know that doesn’t sound hard, but when you are trying to impress people with you passion for green peace and politics, it’s not fun for you or the audience. After listening to so many of these I got up and talked about shoes , it really broke the ice and made people laugh.
identity theft....this topic is never old and it always grabs attention everyone because its based on facts and figure which requires thorough research.
No, thank you… my manager just had a baby, I’m sure she won’t be too amused.
Yes I am
Oooooh, shoes… now thats a creative one … thanks
So what exactly can I say about shoes… first talk about their utility, then how obsessed women are with them Give me pointers please
Nah! Too boring, we’re doing this for fun actually and our manager was encouraging us to pick silly topics… she even told me to do a presentation on why I hate the Twilight series so much but I don’t want to do that.
Talk about food. Everyone loves food. Genetically we are programmed for food and that retains attention for a while.
Second thing is cognitive science. The presentation I made on that is that your brain decides with in the first 20,000 bits of information whether the person you meet is credible or not. These bits can be anything like colors, words gestures and essentially you take in 20,000 bits in the first 15-20 seconds and pretty much decide whether what someone has said is credible or totally crap. Now that the first 15 seconds are up you have made a mind about what I have and probably think that whatever I am talking about is facts where as I could have just easily made up this story but your brain tells you that since I have used big words like cognitive and bits of information that what I have said is the truth.
Something like this catches and keeps their attention. Hope it helps
