Mobile Phone

I am coming to Pakistan in a couple of months inshallah.

I want to use my mobile with a pakistani sim card and make cheap calls to other mobiles and landlines.

How do i do it?

Do i need a pak sim card or can i use vodafone network and it automatically switches over when i get to pak?

What are the main mobile operating networks?

Thx.

Re: Mobile Phone

get a local sim

Re: Mobile Phone

Your best bet is to get a mobilink/ufone sim from Pakistan. The phone system there's awesome. People can call you for free, even when u have $0 in ur sim card.

And for calling within the country, it's best as well.

Re: Mobile Phone

really is that free calls to other mobiles within Pak for free from your mobile?

Is that mobilink or ufone are they 2 seperate networks?

Do u know if I can get these from the UK?

Do i need to have gsm 900 network for my phone to work in Pakistan?

Re: Mobile Phone

u can't get it from UK. u have to be in Pakistan to get it.

When i was there, i had $0 credit left on my sim card, but people could still call me. Incoming is totally free! hence the missed-call culture that u hear about in Pakistan.

It's best for you, because your family or whoever from UK can call you and u won't pay anything. Within the country, i think u will be charged, not sure what the rate is.

I had Mobilink Jazz

Re: Mobile Phone

to my understanding Pakistan using mobile networks gsm 900 and 1800/1900 is that correct?

Mobiles with these networks enabled can call mobile within Pakistan?

Re: Mobile Phone

Not sure bro :(

Re: Mobile Phone

I believe Pakistan's GSM is 900/1800 (1900 is US frequency). If your mobile has these frequencies then a SIM from any Pakistani carrier (Ufone/Mobilink....) should allow you to use the facility. I used my phone with Ufone SIM and it worked just fine.

Re: Mobile Phone

can you find out for my from a knowledge person from Pakistan please and let me know as I don't want to end up taking my mobile and putting in a sim card and not working which i feel is probbally gonna happen.

Re: Mobile Phone

^ Pakistan's networks are 900/1800 frequencies. If your phone has these frequencies and it is not locked to a particular network then you should be able to use Pakistani SIMs.

Re: Mobile Phone

most of the phones from the uk (unless locked to 3 and maybe virgin) will work in Pak...though more and more networks are locking them that they wont!

Re: Mobile Phone

You have to have an unlocked GSM phone is my understanding

Re: Mobile Phone

If your GSM phone is locked, in order for you to use it in Pak you will need to get it unlocked when you arrive in Pak. IMO telenor sim is the best if you want to call overseas.

Re: Mobile Phone

no my cell is not unlocked.

Re: Mobile Phone

Just get your phone unlocked (you can get it done there but it dpeneds on the model of your phone, if its quite new, you may not be able to get it done there or it may be quite expensive, about the same amount that it would be here, for example, i took my phone there locked, and it wouldve cost me about £25 to get it unlocked there) and then any pak sim should work in it.
