I just wanted to know if there are any mobile phone navigation services provided in pakistan.
i live abroad and am used to using the navigation systmes like TOMTOM to get around but now i have heard that companies are providing the same facilities on mobile phone u just feed in whereu are and where u wanna be and u get directiion on ur phone…does anyone know about this kinda services in pakistan
I don't think anyone has developed indexed electronic maps of Pakistan for driving purposes. So, no TomTom will work in Pakistan, and no mobile-phone-based GPS system will work either. This is to the best of my knowledge. Maybe someone can come along and tell us something new.
You can get GPS maps of Pakistan for flying small aircrafts, though.
yeah thats true that no detailed maps for navigation purposes but i heard about this company called nav4all and in future they are planning to offer navigation services in karachi becasue apparenly there are detailed maps for big cities like karachi lahore and islamabad
they also offer the software is various language they already ahve hindi and are working of urdu and punjabi versions of it as welll.........hehehehhe
no it woun't work, for the obviouse reason that there is no GIS available for Pakistan. well they did some mapping back in 1999-2000 (mostly in Karachi) but till now that data is not released for commercial use.
"request them for directions sometimes" ??? whats that, is it like a moody system? Anyway, I think you are talking about some Lo-Jack kinda thing, which is just to track stolen cars, but is not for driving directions.
thats what I was thinking... may be it gives direction like this... aapka matlooba rasta bomb dhamakai ke wajah se band hai, barahai mehrbani kuch din baad ghar sai niklain
a friend of mine told me some comapnies use mobile phone companies like mobilink to send sms to a 'secret' device inside a car to loate it.... is that true
