Assalamoalaikum
lately i’ve started to notice that companies such as o2 or competitons run on radio channels “say text @ 84455” for example. i wanted to know how does the message reach it’s destination with a short form of mobile number!!!

its jus that they r speacial numbers. all operators are in agreement about this and have signed contract with each other to forward calls to its final destination (e.g the competion hotline) whn some1 dials these short numbers.
like u know, i remember on 'you have been framed' on ITV they ask ppl to send their funny home videos to ' YHBF, freepost.' thats it....that was the addreess and post used to get there.
similar logic applies here.
Orite matey ! :)
yeh thanks mate :D i was hoping to find a way of texting to competitons via the net for free, but these clever buggers won't let that happen and they charge a lot for competition based texts.
as an expert working in this area of SMS world.
yes its true, all message systems mostly work on IP based networks and routed accodingly. like when your network get your sms it will first check for destination network or a machine or device.
if they serve they destination they will deliver the message and then do the rating to charge you according to this. if they dont serve the number or destination they will reject the message and some cases still charge for normal text :)
so if you use online text service that message will be rejected as there is no way they can charge you.
Shak bro

not an expert but trying, worked on projects for DoCoMo, T Mobile, Vodafone, Orange, and now O2.
well i am more technical side of it, the subscription services are managed by two companies, your operator and the originator.
first call your operator to stop this. if they ask you to contact the respective company then call them then ask them to stop this.
thanks for the help - if you do find out any more please give us an update.
I was with Orange and received a string of junk texts which I never subscribed to - when my bill arrived I was charged £1.50 per text and orange said it was my fault.
The prob is they come from a variety of sources and its hard to speak to these people.
Im with 3 now (yeah I know!) and last week I received another junk text - so annoying as you cant do anything.
