Mobile network/sim

I’m coming to Dubai for 6 weeks and will need to get a sim card for mobile use while I am there. Can anyone recommend the best all round “pay as you go” package. Also are sim cards easily available?

I’ll also need mobile broadband for my laptop, could someone tell me which networks offer this?

Thanks!!

Re: Mobile network/sim

^ I bought a SIM from the local petrol station when I was in Dubai on vacation, don't forget to take some kind of ID with you e.g. passport otherwise they won't sell it to you.

You can even buy a SIM in the Arrivals Hall at Dubai Airport. They will ask for an ID, as coolmunda said, but since you will just have arrived at the airport you will obviously have your passport with you.

There are two mobile phone operators in the UAE: Etisalat and DU. In terms of pricing both of them are pretty much similar, but the DU SIM ends up saving you money because they charge you per second, while Etisalat charges you per minute.

So for a 2 minute and 34 second phone call you would pay 2 minutes and 34 seconds with a DU SIM, but 3 minutes with an Etisalat SIM.

Here are their “Pay As You Go” offers for travelers:
