I’m due to take a short trip to pak inshahallah next month and will be staying in NWFP, mostly near to Nowshera. I will be there for just under a month.
I want to take my ipad so that I can get internet access, but want to know:
a) can I get a pay-as-you-go mobile broadband micro sim (I suppose it doesn’t have to be a microsim as I could cut a normal sized sim down to size?)
b) which company offers this service
c) how do I get the sim? Can I order it online and have it delivered to me here, I’m not sure how quickly I’ll be able to go out and obtain a sim if I have to wait until I’m in pak.
Take someone with an Id card with you.
400rs (for two or three weeks,I forget) when I was there last year.
Cut your SIM if you need it to fit the iPad. I'm presuming it takes the nano SIM.
Don't expect stellar speeds but it's not bad either

Zong has the worst service and in Mountain areas she'll probably get 56k on it.
Do regular Pay-as-you-go SIMs in Pakistan have Mobile Broadband activated by default or do you have to activate it? In the latter case: How do you do that?

Previously it had to be done on a month to month basis...now its down to day to day. Your prepaid sim can be activated for broadband net by sending a simple sms to the company in question. Cost is Rs. 5 to 10 per day for unlimited net with providers like Ufone and zong...Im sure others have similar packages.

Just to make sure I understood this correctly: You send an SMS to that company's specific number, they activate your broadband access on that SIM for 24 hours and decuct around PKR 10 from your balance. Right?
So if you want to use it over a longer period of time you would have to send that SMS every day? Or are weekly/monthly packages still available?
Could you clarify what you mean please? I'll be moving around within NWFP and will be accessing the internet via my ipad....one of the homes where I'll spend some time does have broadband (but not wifi). Do you mean that I should get broadband installed through the main phone lines and then install a wifi router, because if so, that wouldn't be a solution for me as I'll be staying at different places.
Zong worked fine for me..but then again I was in Islamabad rwp. Then again I was mostly using it to keep up to date with my email. And some light browsing using opera mini.

There are wifi clouds available from PTCL. which will give you the reliable speed you are looking for.
Go for PTCL Cloud Nitro. Will give you really good connectivity where you are going.
