What do you guys think about it? Did any of you decided to seperate the vaccination or not give it to ur child?
The more i read about it… the more i get confused and scared…
MMR is the vaccine that they give at 15months right?
Re: MMR and Autism…
I have 2 sons who have been diagnosed as being on the autism spectrum. Both had symptoms prior to the MMR vaccine.
I do have a feeling (and note, this is just a feeling, nothing based on anything scientific) that vaccines may have an impact on a child whose system isnt ready or able to handle “insult” which is what a vaccine really is…I mean they are injected with a disease made harmless so that their immune system kicks in to defeat it. When you do this to a child whose immune system is compromised or weak, who knows what the result will be yeah? The immune system and the Central Nervous system are the least understood of medical mysteries yeah? So anyway, since I have 2 boys “on the spectrum” (autistic), what would I do differently? Follow the safer vaccination schedule set forth by autism societies and many docs…here is just one of the many links:
A User-Friendly Vaccination Schedule by Donald W. Miller, Jr., MD
Vaccinations are necessary for sure. But to give a 5 pound newborn who was born with difficulty the same dose as a 9 pounder without difficulty is pretty insane yeah? The 9 pounder is almost twice the weight! And a weak 5 pounder has a weak immune system whereas the robust 9 pounder does not.
From my own personal experience, I can agree with “experts” who say that autism is caused by a genetic propensity PLUS environmental trigger(s) I agree with that. I do not think it is due to any specific innoculation (as backed by scientific research) but I do think that a more responsible approach to innoculation should be adhered to.
Re: MMR and Autism...
I am not very informed on this subject but this really scares me. I have never seen any kid with autism back home (i am sur ethey exist but arent diagnosed perhaps?) and we also recieve all kinds of vax back home. What is different here that kids develop all sorts of problems with or without vax here? How doi know i am making the best choice for my child by getting him certain vax or not? :(
Re: MMR and Autism…
^ in the last few yrs there has been a huge effort made to create awareness for autism in Pakistan, so parents recognize the symptoms and seek help. unfortunately it is on the rise all over the world.

this topic was discussed a while back here, this thread might help:

Re: MMR and Autism...
You will be surprised as to how many kids have autism back home. There isn't much awareness or care but I heard that now health care professionals are making some efforts in educating the people about it.
I'm also not sure how true this association is. I am leaning toward MO3's thoughts as well. But it's best to consult a physician.
Re: MMR and Autism...
MMR vaccine is not associated to autism, today the court even gave a rulling so please give your kids the vaccing, it is extremely important.

Thanks Mamaof3!
At what age were you told about your sons being on autism spectrum?
I thought most parent who has filed the case were saying that there kids were fine till 15month of age... they were ven speaking few words and active but after they got the 15 month MMR shot thats when the symptoms appeared?
I am worried becasue my sons next appointment would be for 15 months.... and i cant decide if i want that shot or not for him.....
He does go to day care so it might be a requirement for daycare as well to be uptodate on shots.....

Though I personally think there might be a link between autism and MMR still there's not a solid proof for that because not enough research's being done for it.
And I gave it my two kids and they stayed fine.
carp, the majority of kids who are diagnosed as being on the autism spectrum have at least some symptoms or hints of symptoms prior to that MMR vaccine. We knew by age 1 that something was going on in both cases. My elder son did not get an official diagnosis until age 5. Younger son got the diagnosis at age 20 months. Anyway, the thinking is that around the time of that MMR vaccine, the “language explosion” also occurs…and this is when autism becomes most apparen. So this can make it look like the vaccine is responsible when actually its something completely different. There has been no scientific evidence to show any causal link between the vaccine and autism. That doesnt mean that its not there but it seems less likely since much research has been done.
Anyway, if you have any concern about the MMR or any other vaccine, read up on the “safer vaccine schedule” here is one link:
Too Many Too Soon - Suggestions for safer childhood vaccination schedules
Vaccines are necessary and important for sure. But theres nothing wrong with looking into and asking your doc about the safer schedule.

which ruling?
Re: MMR and Autism…
I have been having sleepless nights because of the same issue. The more I read about, the more confused I get.
Even with my first son,I was really worried , but my doctor sort of laughed it off, and my husband told me that I worry for no reason. But shukar Alhumdulillah he's fine. Now it's my second childs' turn, and I've been thinking pretty hard about it.
I guess you look at the pros and cons, and I know I'll also be traveling back home any time soon, so it's better if he gets his vaccine.Baqi, Allah ke hath mein. Inshallah it will be fine.
And by the way, they(merck) JUST stopped the production of separate vaccines about a month or two ago, so that's not an option anymore.
