Muttahida majlis e amal an alliance of religious parties which was formed before the elections.MMA shares government with the ruling PML in balochistan and has its own government in NWFP.They supported president’s uniform.
Some analysts believe that MMA is actually Mullah military alliance and B team of army.Almost every mainstream party in the past and present also has connections with the military and GHQ but statements made by MMA leaders are quite contradictory.

TOBA TEK SINGH, April 21: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal and all opposition parties in the ARD are in agreement not to accept the martial law in case the Musharraf government is toppled.
This was stated by Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam’s provincial patron and MNA Maulana Qazi Hameedullah while talking to journalists on Thursday evening at the residence of MMA’s district secretary-general Mian Abdul Basit.
He claimed that the meeting between JUI leader Hafiz Hussain Ahmad and PML-N chief Mian Nawaz Sharif in London was also held in this regard.
Opposition parties, he said, had also decided to launch a country-wide movement against present rulers.
However, its line of action would be decided in MMA’s shoora meeting being held in Islamabad on April 28.
The proposal of the Balochistan leadership of the Jamaat-i-Islami with regard to separation from governments of Balochistan and the NWFP by the MMA would be discussed and a unanimous decision would also be taken in the meeting.
About the Nishter Park bomb blast, the Maulana blamed both the government and the MQM for their involvement in diverting the attention of the public from real issues to sectarian hatred. JUI district amir Maulana Usman Ghani was also present on the occasion.

QUETTA, April 21: The chief minister of NWFP, Akram Durrani, has said the MMA government is enjoying good relations with the federal government. He was taking to newsmen soon after his arrival from Peshawar to condole with Speaker Balochistan Assembly Jamal Shah Kakar on the death of his mother.
He said tribal areas were under the administration of the federal government and question about these areas should be addressed to the provincial governor who was representing the federal government in the province.
Referring to operation in Waziristan, he said he had suggested to the federal government that the issue of Waziristan should be resolved through negotiations under the local tribal system and traditions.
“Political solution through negotiations is the only way to resolve this issue,” Mr Durrani said, and added that his government wanted that peace should be restored in Waziristan. He said that peace was necessary in Waziristan for the entire country.
He said that the ruling PML was involved in horse-trading during senate elections in the NWFP. However, he said that Islamabad and Peshawar were enjoying good relations.
MMA’s provincial president Maulana Mohammad Khan Sherani, Senior Minister Maulana Abdul Wasay, provincial ministers Hafiz Hamdullah and Faisal Daud were also present on the occasion.

Without support from GHQ MMA would not even have half the seats that they won at the last election.

Well its a popular belief that Musharaf let MMA win so many seats just to scare US.This way he can show them the threat of fanatic mullas taking over the nukes and he would himself emerge as someone who can ensure 'enlightened moderation'. MMA is a very soft opposition in any case.

For a year and half after they supported the government in passing the 17th amendment to the constitution, they point blank refused to accept the National Security Council (NSC), and any MMA participation in it.
Ever since the earthquake over 6 months ago, the NWFP Chief Minister has attended every NSC meeting - chaired by President-COAS Pervez Musharraf.
