dunno this falls in culture or family section.. with birth of my baby-boy I discovered something that irritated me.. and it was interesting I never thought about it befire too.. we Pakistanis never distribute mithai or sweets at birth of girls!!! is this not discrimination.. I would certainly distribute sweets if I ever have a baby-girl.. are we still saddened at birth of girls today? and even women discriminate against their sex more than men do..
r u serious?all pakistanis dont do that, atleast not in my family.
hmmm,. i dunno about all that…after all, girls get the gold ![]()
:halo:
never happened in my family..they distribute mithai regardless of the gender :-)
Heard of it, did never understood why, yes u are right that mostly females of the family are the one who discriminate like this. I was told that, being a second born, it was expected or appreciated that i would be a boy, what a dissapointment that i turned out to be of the wrong gender :-/
where is the mithai? :*(
never happens in our family!
yes am quite serious .. all, girls should ask if their parents distributed sweets when they were born.. punjabi kuri I have lived all my life in Lahore.. check again ..
i didn't distribute it while i've 2 boys .......:)
n i have yet to see someone doing this (i mean discrimination) in our family .......but wellit happens .....n usually women themselves r responsible for it .....!!!
never happened in our family…infact girls ko kuch ziada hi sar pe charhaya jataa hai ![]()
hmm never thought about it, maybe cuz i never knew about it.
i dono about that
im gonna ask my mom if they distributed mitai when i was born
:)
but my cousin, when she was born...her parents did distribute mitai..
Aray kia karna hai mithaai baant kar ladki ki birth par, us nay konsa paisa kamana hai? ![]()
Btw, it's useless for me to ask my mom whether she distributed sweets on my birth or not coz I was born with a twin bro. :-)

i guess it doesn't happen but i will double check if it's still the case.
i was aqeeqa-fied as were my other siblings but i think sweets maybe a thing of the past because i haven't received any sweet in a long time

hehe.. not true.
although it never happened in my family , i do know people who do that a lot.
My mother distributed several tokras of mithai to the whole mohalla on the birth of my first daughter. Then again, she is the first grand-daughter on both sides of the family, so it was kinda special anyway. :)
A guy I know who worked with me in Lahore. And his wife was expecting. One day he came to work with such a long face. Turns out his wife had just given birth to their third daugther. The poor man was having trouble controlling his sobs. I found the whole scene kinda pathetic. I mean, I understand, folks have desire to have sons. But to literally cry after having a daughter is like days of jahaliyaat. I shudder to think how much love he will shower on his daughters, and I suspect both him and his wife were planning to continue popping out a baby every year till they get the proverbial wali-ehad. Forget mithai, the girls will be lucky to get new clothes.
Sounds like my family. There are three daughters, followed by a son (who was born ten years after the last daughter). Before my brother was born, whenever the three of us used to go anywhere with our Ammi, people would always ask her, ‘Are these three your daughters?’ Ammi would say yes. Then they would reply - “Kuch nahin hota, Allah dai ga.”
As if somehow Allah didn’t give her enough when He gave her three healthy daughters.
My mother in law distributed mithai to the every one on the birth of
my son but she passed away just few weeks before my daughters birth
:( so we didnt , but it was not because she was a girl . I heard from my amie that when my sister was born abu distributed mithaie and bought it from germany coz mithaie was not avaliabel in Denmrak that time so it is different from people from people . I persnoly dont belive on such things ...bus logoN ne aapni khushi ke azhar kaa eik aandaaz bana lia hai , nothing else .
