has anyone made mithai at home? any good recipes to share? i brought in an assortment for my co-workers from my brother’s wedding and now they’re all clamouring for more and wanting to make their own!

I have made basic mithai using sweetened condensed milk and coconut.

SGC , I can comfortably make Gulab Jamuns at home … yeah thats about all :no:
I have tried making jalebi twice .. both times it was good , but not as good as the desi shop ki mithai .
I also tried making Laddoo at home , the experiment was good.. perhaps if i make these things a few more times i will attain perfection .. but really desi mithai is hard work .. they are hard to make first time .. you got to practice tonns …

I had this yummy home-made channay ki daal ka halwa in a family friend's home in Pakistan..... can someone find me a recipe please. Would LOVE to try and make it.

i tried making choc and pista barfi at home once but it tasted awwwful :( i bought all the correct ingredients and followed the method properly but for some reason it just tasted horrible. im always impressed by ppl who can make mithai at home

my mom makes gulab jamun , rass malai , besan kay ladoo at home. she also knows how to make baloo shahi. i only have once made rass malai :hinna:
I would post the recipe of channay ki daal ka halwa , my mom makes excellent chanay kay daal ka halwa.

@ afshi- I don't have any personal experience with this but I have heard that applying honey on your gums helps in fertility.
*Chanay ki Daal ka Halwa by Rida Aftab

Ingredients:-
1 Kg = Chanay ki Daal (2 hours soak ker lain)
1 1/2 Liter = Milk
750 gm = Sugar
100 gm = Kishmish
100 gm = Coconut
100 gm = Almonds
100 gm = Pistay
1/2 Cup = Ghee
6 = Green Cardamom
2 Drops = Kewra
Recipe:-
Sugar ko 1 cup water mai dissolve ker k aik taar wala sheera bana lain. Daal ko water drain ker k Milk mai boil ker lain. Itna pakain k Milk dry ho jay and daal kharee kharee rehay. Ager daal jaldee gaal jay and Milk abhee dry na ho to high flame ker k dry ker lain. Ilaichi ko koot lain and daal ko bhee grind ker lain. Pan mai 1/2 Cup ghee daal ker geram kerain. Phir grinded Chanay kie Daal add ker dain. Achee terha bhoonain. Jaab Daal achee terha bhun jay to Sheera ,nuts and Ilaichi Powder add kerain and aik tray ko grease ker k us mai pheela dain and spoon say level ker dain, jaab thanda ho jay to cutting ker lain.
Note:- Yeh Halwa dry form mai banay ga. Ager liquid mai Halwa banana hay to Ghee 1/2 Kg laina hay and sheera naye banay ga, balkay jaab Daal ghee mai bhunn jay gee to Sugar add ker k bhunain gay.

***Chany ki daal ka halwa by Shireen Anwer*
**Ingredients
Gram lentils ½ kg soak for 6 hr
Sugar ½ kg
Ghee 1 ½ cup
Milk 1litter
Green cardamom 4 crushed
Green cardamoms ground 1 tsp
Khoya ½ cup
Almonds blanched and sliced 3 tbsp
Pistachio 3 tbsp
Yellow color pinch
Silver paper as required
Method
Boil the ½ kg soaked lentils in 1litter milk till it dries and the lentils tender. Allow the lentils to cool and blend. Heat 1 ½ cup ghee in a pan and add 4 crushed cardamoms along with the ground lentils, and fry well for at least half an hour till light brown. Then add in ½ kg sugar and continue to cook, the halva looks thin at this time, keep frying well till it leaves ghee at the sides of the pan, add ½ cup khoya and fry for another 10-15 minutes, remove in a flat platter, sprinkle 3 tbsp blanched almonds and 3 tbsp pistachios. Top with silver paper and cut into pieces.

FOR SHEERA:
2 cups water men 1 cup cheeni, ilaichi( 4-5) and few drops of rooh-e-kewra daal kar paka leyn.
Procedure:
1 cup dry milk men 1tbsp maida, 1tsp baking powder,1 tbsp oil, 1 egg daal kar achi tarah se mix karlen. agar egg chota ho ya agar apko dry mixture lag raha ho to pani ki cheent daal kar goondh len.Bohot ziada pani nahi just cheenta..
aur kitchen k ilawa kissi thandhi jagah par ghoondheeyn ( she told something about baking powder reaction)
choti choti si balls bana leyn.bohot bari balls nahin bananeen.
Oil ko medium aanch par garam kareyn. jab garam hojaye to us men balls daal deyn. Medium heat par fry kareyn warna ander se kachi aur uper se kaali hojayen gee..
jab acha sa brownish sa color ajaye to nikal leyn.
Balls ko sheerey men daal deyn aur ek boil de deyn sheerey ko..issey yeh hoga k sheera ander tak chala jaye ga aur agar ander koi guthli hai ya ssakht reh gaye hai to woh achi tarah pak jaye gi..
do this just for 4 -5 minutes..jab boil aney lagey to utar leyn..

ING:
flour:250gm
dry milk:250 gm
soda:1/2 tsp
baking powder:1/2 tsp
egg:1
ghee:50 gm
sugar:2 kg
silver paper:3
ice cubes:2
ghee:for frying
METHOD:
-sugar main 1 jug water add klr k pka len.jb yeh yakjan ho jai to stove slow kr den.
-ek bowl main flou+dry milk+baking powder+soda+egg add kr k mix kr len
-ek bowl main 1 tbsp ghee add kr k is amin ice cubes add kr k is ko mix kr len taake is k daane khatam ho jain.
-jb cube melt ho jai to flour k mixture ko is main add kr den.
-thn is ko aate ki trhan goondh len agr is amin ghee nazar aaye to is main thora dry flour add kr k goondh len,yeh atta dry hona chahiye.
-thn is ko 10 min ka rest den,thn is ke balls bna len.
-balls ko ghee main deep fry kr k garam sheere main thori der k liye daal ker serving bowl main nikaal len.
-nikaalne k baad is per thora sheera daal kr is ko almond or pistachio k saath garnish kren.
-thn is per silver paper laga den.
