how many of you approves the idea/norm to keep females beware only (pretty/beautiful/glamorous ones) as receptionists at offices, at hotels etc, and keeping female secretaries just because of the prevailing mind set that it would attract your male clientele.
isn’t it misusing women? and another one i.e. taking your female staff to corporate meetings not out of their job role but just to help win over the deal.
Well if the women are okay with it, who am I to judge. Would I like being paraded around for my looks rather than ability? No.
On the flip side, there are women who willingly use their "feminine charm" to gain favors at work. Men do all sorts of things to get ahead too - be it being golf buddies with a company manager/leader or going for a happy hour together. Most women (well desi women at least) have other responsibilities to think of and are unable to network with colleagues over sports or drinks (yes, there are exceptions). So if they're making up for this lost opportunity in other ways, so be it.
of course, in the modern society, women are so called 'FREE' with 'EQUALITY' but the fact is that they are considered by the masses as an "OBJECT" and women happily play in men's hands and listen to what men want from them to satisfy their lust.
what a sad and unacceptable behavior of male-dominated society.
^ I agree. Women are not always "bechaari". I like to think that we have made good progress from the Mad Men era when women were treated as objects of desire and second class citizens at work. Most decent companies today have strict rules about harrassment, and they are enforced.
Women in general use their charms, if not as a selling point then (is it then or than I should use here?) at least as an asset. They know that and use it voluntarily. No one is forcing it on them.
When it comes to hiring company's face, whether as a receptionist or a representative, people hire women who know how to carry themselves and have a good body language and manners. These are all acquired skills and nothing to do with God given beauty.
^ if shorts are the only things that are available to wear, then that is what they are going to wear. So, people, women esp. think they got elevated status, but I think they are just being fooled.
This is just one aspect of the broader picture.
Women are still viewed as a commodity in the modern world as they were many years before.
Misusing is a strong word. Women are well aware of the effect they can have on men and many use it to their advantage, be it to get prompt service, garner a quick favour for their project, or to get some extra help.
I'm sure that if you talk to some of these women and let them know of your view and 'concern' that they are in fact being misused and objectified by evil men; they will tell you to buzz off.
Actually not all of these receptionists, secretaries, sales girls etc are that beautiful / glamorous. Most of them are alright looking..just well groomed. I've observed that most girls who work at stores and malls hail from lower-middle class background. Which means their fathers and brothers work as mechanics, peons and drivers. So I wouldn't worry about them too much.
Most secretaries in corporations too are not all that either. Their background and education is mediocre at best. Yet they have more presence and social influence at workplace than mid level male managers.
I've never seen it happen personally, though I wouldn't find it hard to believe it happens to some extent out there. With what Ghost14 said, maybe half the question should be about women misusing themselves.
I would want someone well groomed and nice looking managing my office if it were me - why not?
First impressions are last impressions and appearance counts for a lot in the working world. You could be smart as a whip but if your presentation lacks polish, no one will put you in the front. Who wants to be greeted by a slob? I don't and I'd fire the girl at my place if she ever greeted someone like that.
As a teenager, I used to work in retail during the summer. My boss had a corporate visit at her store. After the visit was over...a week later...the corporate office sent her a box of makeup.
