Does anyone else feel as if servants are portrayed as inferior people in Pakistani dramas? One might argue that they’re simply depicting reality but I’m not talking about that. It would be understandable if this was done purposely as part of the story. But I’ve seen actors do this subconsciously. Their general attitude and tone towards characters like maids and drivers is not exactly polite .. as if this is just how you’re supposed to speak to the housekeepers. Anyone else notices this?

which drama in particular?

Not all are poor. Major role players are generally from elite class.

We discussed a little about portrayal of servants in media during 80s/90s in this thread
the situation has changed with the overall change in society.
If you are talking about the burgers i.e the upper class then yes most of them treat their servants like that. There was this burger girl who asked her teacher why do they have to learn urdu when they don't even speak it, her teacher replied so that you can communicate with your servants and tailors easily.
They did show such incidents in the past, I remember one scene in which they burnt their maid with hot iron and those things were happening in reality then but not now.
Infact now in middle class maids use that ungrateful tone.

Absolutely false.
I have seen by my own sinful eyes ...small kids are being exploited by aunties from middle class...they think it is their ardent right to scold them coz they are paying them off.
I remember this aunt of mine ..always speaking about religious stuff and when I saw her attitude at home with her maid( a small girl) I was like WTH!
Where did all the info go?!?!
Quoting another incident( prevailing) ..In our neighbour the way these maids are being treated is beyond explanation, they literally revile at these maids.
Re: Mistreatment of servants in Pakistani dramas
so they are showing actual treatment of servants in media?
Re: Mistreatment of servants in Pakistani dramas

I remember Javed Sheikh in xyz ki aye gi baraat spoke to his servant in a really bossy tone all the time. In one scene I remember he was pretending to leave home and he was like saman uthao!! to the poor guy and I think he even reached out to hit him at one point... it was all done in a comic way like kya kar rahe ho tum, samaan uthao... but it just didn't sit well with me. I'll post that scene here if I find it.

Didn't this happen for real in pakistan at some pakistani woman politician's house. Abida Hussian I believe, the maid was tortured with iron because she talking to the press?

Re: Mistreatment of servants in Pakistani dramas
i wonder why people do like this and how can they treat their servants like this, Saudi’s top the list in this regards when it comes to housemaid/servant abuse. I know so many families who literally treat their servants as slaves and unfortunately me or anyone cannot do anything about it ![]()
