Mississippi Masala

I thought the movie would be atleast half decent, since Denzel Washington was in it. I hadn’t heard of this movie or that it had gotten any good reviews, so I already knew it wasn’t going to be good. Anyways, I watched it, and I really wished I hadn’t. It’s one of the worst movies I’ve seen. Denzel Washington really let me down. Not that his acting in this movie was bad, but just the fact that he took part in such a crappy film really tears me up.

The movie was about this one girl who’s grandparents were brought over to Uganda, Africa from India as slaves to build some bridge. Once the project was complete, many Indians just stayed in Uganada and continued with their lives there. So, this girl is born in Uganda, and at about the age of 5 or 6 her family moves to Mississppi because the Africans kick them out of Uganda. She grows up in Mississippi and she meets and falls in love with this one black guy (Denzel Washington), and later her family finds out she’s with him and they go crazy because she wants to marry a black guy. (Which really doesn’t make sense because if her parents were born and raised in Uganda, you’d think they’d be more tolerant of black people). Anyways, she ends up running away with the black guy at the end and her father returns to Uganda.

The storyline made absolutely no sense and the movie’s “moral” was contradictory. Everyone sucked at acting, the setting was boring, the way they portrayed certain character’s behavior was completely off, and there wasn’t any funny parts in the entire movie (except for this one part when Denzel grabs this stupid thing off his brother’s neck and chucks it across the road. haha)

Re: Mississippi Masala

Your theory makes much less sense. How do you think Muslim parents in India would react if their child decided to marry a Hindu. I guess they would be ecstatic since they were born and raised among Hindus.

And please let go of your pink font…your posts are not easy on the eyes.
