Mission Impossible 2

Exactly 4 years after the first big screen outing, Ethan Hunt’s back with his IMF and “This message wil…” antics. SP’s are slated for 22,(although we got them earlier

) and gen release is on 24. If you really wanna know the story,(essentially just an excuse for explosions and stunt scenarios) this time around he’s gotta stop a german virus before it falls into the wrong hands.

A film like this rarely lives up to its hype. First, it’s the sequel to a movie that took in over 180m domestically and over 420m worldwide. While in '96 the focus was more on converting a succesful tv series onto the big one, the pressure to produce and exceed his time was enormous. But it’s by no means a lousy watch, it’s a top notch action entertainer no doubt!

I was expecting it to somewhat set the action film standard for the next four or five years, like Face/Off did in '97. While MI-2 is better than the last couple Bond flicks, it struggles to even duplicate the level of entertainment created by the first MI film. It’s still entertaining and fun, in a check-your-brain-at-the-box-office kind of way.

Cruise is effective, so’s Rames but what really surprised me was John Polson’s performance. You don’t find aussie actors like him, especially if you measure him along *L.A confidential’s * Guy Pearce.

Anyways, overall, it’s a very decent fast-paced flick although there are some scenes that will definitely give you feelings of deja vu, ala 007 and especiallyThe Matrix.

Here's an additional note for adrenaline-junkies, the direction was between Paula Wagner and....John Woo! yaani woohoo! Expect a lot of well-coordinated sequences.

I just saw the movie.
Sadly, I didn’t like the story line.
But the action was really amazing.
