Missile strike hits NW Pakistan

**Two missiles fired from a suspected US drone aircraft have killed at least five people in north-west Pakistan.**The missiles hit a home in a village in the tribal district of North Waziristan, which borders Afghanistan.

Local officials told the AFP news agency that the house was being used by rebels.

The US has launched repeated drone missile strikes against Taleban and al-Qaeda militants, who have built strongholds in the region.

Hundreds of people have been killed in similar airstrikes in the last two years.

Pakistan has publicly criticised the drone attacks, saying they fuel support for militants, but observers say the authorities privately condone the strikes.

The American military does not routinely confirm drone operations, but analysts say the US is the only force capable of deploying such aircraft in the region. This article is from the BBC News website. © British Broadcasting Corporation, The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites.
