I’m 25 years old and currently a week late for my period. HPT and blood tests are negative for pregnancy. I typically have a longer cycle anywhere from 30-37 days but in the past 15 years I have never once missed a period. My last period was also a 37 day cycle and it’s now been 43 days and I still have no period. Around the 34 th day of this cycle i was experiencing all the symptoms for a typical period; diarrhoea, cramps, breast tenderness, tiredness etc. Now I’m really only feeling a little tired. I’ve googled all the possible reasons for missing/ late periods and nothing really applies to me. Not stressed at all, eating very well, exercising moderately, haven’t been sick in ages, routine is just as always except for waking up for suhoor. I’ve been through much worse and still had my period. Doctor seems to think it’s no big deal considering it’s never happened to me before but I can’t understand y all of a sudden after 15 years of very regular periods I would miss one?
^ really... I didn't realize it was that common. I mean I have some friends who miss it all the time but that's just how their cycles always been whereas I've always had a regular one.
No signficant weight loss or gain I think just 1 kg in a period of 6 weeks and I've cut out junk food so I didn't think it was particularly significant.
Doctor was saying a similar thing that if I had a history of amenhorrea then they'd look into it but since it's never happened before it's nothing to worry about. So wat happens to my cycle now ie will it just go back to the start of a menstrual cycle and I should hopefully get a period next month? Or is it going to be confused and come in the middle or something?
Also do u know if there was any chance of having an ectopic pregnancy the result would show up in my blood test as positive for a pregnancy? Although I don't know I could have gotten pregnant if by some freakish accident I am I guess I would be 3-5 weeks.
yeah it is pretty common so dont worry for now, its only if you notice something else or miss two cycles then doctors should start to investigate.
It should come roughly same time next month, it may be slightly confused but roughly same time.
Even if you had an ectopic pregnancy it would still show up on preggo test, i assume you are using birth control? if you still think you might be pregnant repeat the test in a weeks time.
Have you been taking calcium supplements? That can be the reason too. Ill advice you to do a little workout you wont believe the punctuality of your periods i can definitely confirm hourly regularity if you do exercise.
I don't use bcps but do use birth control. I didn't really think I could be pregnant but given that I'd never missed a period before, and none of the other potential factors applied, it was the only reason which made sense.
@ reha no stress at all in fact coz it's Ramadan and my boss is on vacay works pretty chill right now. Like I said at this point all aspects of my lifestyle are better than they have ever been, at the most I'm getting like 1 hr less of sleep (I usually get 9 hrs so I don't think it's something which will make much of a difference).
Oh well I guess there's a first time for everything, so I'll just hang on till next month and hope nothing else is the matter and it's just a fluke.
during Ramadaan, my period gets a little weird. So it may just be Ramadaan. If the doctor has said there is nothing to worry about, then just wait it out.
Just wanted to update in case this kind of a thing was a problem with someone else. So I finally got my period after 55 days ( counted from the first day of my cycle) hahah I was weirdly excited about it, I guess after having them for 15 years regularly not having them made me feel something was wrong. still don't see why it happened only thing I can chalk it up to Ramadan, which like I said I've had 15 years of experience with so can't say wat was different this time. But at least now if it ever happens again I won't freak out so much. In fact next time I'll probably celebrate having one month less of the pain, backaches, soreness and all the other horrid crap that comes along with it. The body clearly is a very mysterious thing.
