Misdemeanor or a Felony? Job Application

so i have to fill out a job application here is a question:

*Have You Ever Been Convicted Of A Misdemeanor or a Felony? A Conviction will not necessarily disqualify application from the job. NOTE: “conviction” includes a plea of guilty and no contest. Do not include any convictions that has been legally expunged, that results in your placement in a diversion program, or for which the record has been sealed. *

i have had speeding tickets in the past and that is considered as a misdemeanor. they have all been paid for/closed.

keeping the bold part mentioned above in mind, do i need to answer the question as a ‘Yes’ ?

during the phone interview, the HR did ask me this question and i said i have had speeding tickets in the past…

Re: Misdemeanor or a Felony? Job Application

Speeding tickets dont count in this case ..

^ how come ?

and HR's reply was ?

he said okay and then he asked something along the lines of if i had had 3 tickets in the last 3or2 years (don't remember). and i replied that i don't think so but i will have to confirm that.

he didn't follow up on that nor did i bring it up.

i was invited for a second interview with the team after this so i would assume this should not be an issue.

may be b/c he knew it wasn't significant enough , i don't think so u've to mention that in application however there must be more experienced guys over here to reply u ,than me so wait for them........... and good luck

Re: Misdemeanor or a Felony? Job Application

More experienced guys..... jeez thanks a lot for putting us convicts under the spot light

lol

Speeding tickets don't count. I think on the employment application(s) they're more concerned with criminal offenses. Even when you go to the clerk's office there's the civil offenses counter to pay your tickets, etc. and then there's criminal offenses counter. So clearly, they're distinguishable.

Re: Misdemeanor or a Felony? Job Application

Speeding is not considered a misdemeanor. I believe they are called civil infractions. If you don't have a criminal record, you don't have to claim anything.

Reckless driving ticket is class 1 misdemeanor in most states.

Re: Misdemeanor or a Felony? Job Application

Obviously you have too many speeding tkts.

I hope it is not a driving job you're applying for

Re: Misdemeanor or a Felony? Job Application

Re: Misdemeanor or a Felony? Job Application

I dont think speeding tickets have anything to do with this, if this was the case i would be jobless since I have a 15 speeding tickets in a span of 10 years and the last one was a STUNT DRIVING ticket where my car was impounded for a week. That said no I dont think this should be the case.
