1. No matter how much you are around a couple, you cannot make assumptions about their marriage. A LOT is left unsaid or happens behind closed doors. Their public persona may be very different from their private.

2. Sometimes tensions occur between couples who seem very close because suddenly they go from the “It’s Us against the world” mentality to “You vs. Me.” This is not “bad.” It just means that your lives are so intertwined now that conflict is bound to arise. But you also need to understand why you are suddenly feeling antagonistic.

3. No matter how well you think you know each other, there is a ton of deeper undiscovered stuff.

4. You need to DO stuff together to help your relationship grow.

5. The man always makes the first move and the woman determines whether or not anything will come of it.

6. There are a lot of things you look for in a spouse based upon what you’ve grown up with and seen in other married couples. Often you pick things because they are different from what you’ve seen. But often you also don’t realize how much you’re taking for granted – how much you’re assuming about the role of a spouse that perhaps the spouse you selected does not realize s/he needs to fulfill.

About point 3, by stuff do you mean do stuff to better your relationship like read books etc or go out and get involved in activities? Or both?

Also, can you elaborate 5th point? I get it in terms of initiating a relationship etc. but it seems like you’re saying that continues throughout life.
