Re: Misbah?
EVERYONE in the team except Misbah should retire.
PCB chairman should retire. Caretaker chamcha should retire. Leeches like Intikhab Alam, Haroon Rasheed, Iqbal Qasim should retire.
The whole PCB board of governors should retire.
Why should the only person who is looking to play for Pakistan retire?
Re: Misbah?
Couldn’t agree more! :k:
Re: Misbah?
I guess we don't deserve a fighter, so he should go, let rest of the mediocres enjoy benefits!
Re: Misbah?
I always thought if Misbah played under a captain then he would be an asset to the team. Not only he would not have to drive the team but could also play according to the demand of the captain.
Imagine Misbah playing for any other team under any other captain!! Even at this age he is the only batsman in pakistan who can walk in to almost any team.
He needs to get rid of making decisions responsibility, a captain can take off that pressure and assign a role for him.
Re: Misbah?
doesn't matter if he is captain or not, if he comes to bat with 3/4 wicket down in first 5 overs with 2/3 runs on board, he'll be forced to play the way he is playing.
Re: Misbah?
I always thought if Misbah played under a captain ....
Can you suggest a name?
Is anyone performing consistently enough to be picked in the team, let alone assume the office of captain?

Without Misbah we would have lost todays match and out of the tournament. When you have legendary batsmen like Jamshed and Shehzad than medicores like Misbah are required.
Re: Misbah?
agreed sir jee......we have nothing on bench. he is saving us in every other match. plus afridi will be retiring too and we need some senior presence in the team. he shd give up captaincy so that we can groom someone else but it does not hurt if he continues as bat.
my inside resources are telling me that PCB is thinking to bring malik back and put him skipper.

ditto
his fitness at 40 is amazing mashallah. let him focus on batting only.
by the way it amazes me when i go to different forums and dawn forum...every indian will be defending misbah.....he has high respect in india and every pakistani will be cursing misbah. so sad that his own countrymen are rude to this great man
Re: Misbah?
^^ The one cursing him have got no cricketing sense nor are aware of our batting capabilities, they just try to live in the moment of two three overs, where U. Akmal or Afridi hit one or two sixes every once in a while.
Misbah has respect of every cricket fan who know about cricket! Period.

Its because he is an Indian kind of role model. Modest, humble, a good character and a fighter. Indians dont go for flamboyancy that much. Nature-wise, Misbah is similar to Sachin, Dravid, Laxman, Sehwag who are big big in India.
Also as i understand Misbah is more desired in India than Pakistan same is true for Dhoni, he seems to have more fans in Pakistan than India.

In current team there is no ideal captain who he can play under, but push comes to shove i would say make Shez (I know i know, i dont like him too) a captain, it would be good in long run for Pakistan.
I think when misbah was re-inducted in the team then PCB missed a trick by making him permanent captain. They could have made Hafeez or someone else captain and used Misbah as middle order only. PCB loves him because he does what they ask him do, his career was always one drop away. He always walked a tight rope between PCB and players.
I would be actually sad when he retires.
Re: Misbah?
Misbah should continue as test captain for a year at least
As for ODIs, he has already announced that he will retire after the World Cup
Re: Misbah?

That is a problem.
Actually, I don't think he'll have a problem playing under most of the players. It is just that in the current team no one is guaranteed a place in playing 11 in the long run. That is a result of years of politics and groupings within the team.
So, having Misbah as captain might not be ideal but for now is the least harmful choice, IMO.

interesting thought kaka....you may be right. like i said, i have hardly seen any indian bad mouthing misbah and wasim akram whereas they will be using every bad name for afridi, shoaib akhtar and will be making fun of other pakistani players....
Pakistanis on the other hand simply dont like misbah PERIOD. maybe and as you said, we like mercurial type last ball sixer type heros and hard worker honest guy like misbah do not fit in
by the way, indians simply adore wasim akram. so much respect for him. i have never ever seen any indian even hinting at wasim's involvement in match fixing. not sure why but we Pakistanis are even divided on wasim as well. i guess wasim always says good things about india and pakistanis get upset and call him "paisay ka bhooka".
in pakistan, yes dhoni is very popular. Dhoni is actually way more popular than our own skipper misbah! We love dhoni's calm demeanor and all the titles he has won and his ability to hit big in last few overs and close matches for India. I always thought he is very popular in india as well but from your post looks like that may not be the case.
tendulkar and dravid also have masive respect in pak but they have respect everywhere. they are true role models for every player.
Imran also has a lot of respect in india and i thought indians were in complete awe of imran...oxford educated, so handsome, genuine fast bowler like Lillie and thomson, talented, so polished. indians simply didnot have answer of imran khan.
Re: Misbah?
Someone with the ID kakabali mentioned during the Zimbabwe match that Misbah role is not to be aggressive player but to hold one end. That is the problem - Mr. Misbah has taken up this role to the detriment of this team. In Zimbabwe game, after getting set, with the score being quite respectable, he refused to play.his shots. Umer Akmal and Mr. M were playing quite well. But Mr. M was so deep into his she'll that Williams became a dominant spinner. And had his "tail up". With the result he consumed two wickets in an over - I think Akmal and Afridi.
Had Misbah taken the game to the opponent, the tone would be different. Batsmen would not have been stuck in the crease and getting owed by Williams beauties.
When you play positive cricket, it is infectious. When your role model is D. B. Dhoni, you consume dot balls, build pressure on the team, and lose games that you should have won.
Mr. M Has the strokes, as he has shown with rapid fire 50s and 100s. Mr. M belongs in one day cricket. Only if he changes his approach.
The way Mr. M chased down some balls yesterday shows his fitness and work ethic. D. B. Dhoni does not dive any more. He let's catches fall between him and 1st slip on a regular basis. He even does not appeal with intensity, letting half outs go the other way.
Mr. D, you ain't no Mr. M.
Mr. M, you can do better than Mr. M
Re: Misbah?
Actually the first time Misbah tried to go aerial, he was caught in the deep and I went to bed straight away. If anything, with 4 overs still left, I thought it was needless at the time. Had Misbah stayed with Wahab till the end (and tried slogging say in the last 1-2 overs) we would have crossed 250 for sure
Despite his tuk tuk nature, knowing what's to come after him, does not give Misbah licence to free his arms early in his innings. To be honest no body really expected Wahab to score a fifty today. That was a bonus and those last 15-20 runs got us out of jail
One thing you need to remember Southee is that this is not Indian or Lankan batting. Our batting is hopeless
Re: Misbah?
Given the quality and depth of Indian batting Dhoni can afford to tuk tuk
Re: Misbah?
GA, by predetermined tuk tuking, Misbah put himself in the position to go for that shot with 4 overs to go. This is a famine or feast approach. With Misbah talent, getting ones and twos early on instead of soaking up dot balls keeps the scoreboard ticking. At one time he was 39 off 81 balls (+/-). Strike rate below 50! Unless the wicket is a rank turner or conditions are bounce or favor swing, no top order batsman shoukd have this infinitesimal scoring rate for such an extend portion of his inning.
